Being bold to speak your truth, to ask for what you want, to ask for what you need, and to live live authentically and vulnerably is the greatest flex. People may not understand you. People may judge and criticize you. People may formulate opinions of you, or express their disdain, or spread hurtful gossip or untruths. People may wonder if you're off your rocker, or why you are "different", or don't follow the golden rules, or toe the lines they draw or heed... But in a world where there are too many rules and expectations and systems and judgements--I've learned to embrace who I am in all my humanness and vulnerability. It took me a very long time to reach this part of my life where I genuinely choose to honor my lived experiences, human expression, and the way I choose to show up in the world. Unapologetically. I wear crowns. I launch big ideas. I cultivate a world of possibility where others see impossibility. I go bigger when people want to pack it in. I say yes. I share my thoughts and feelings when people say I should be quiet. People give me the side eye. I am used to the side eye. I was the kid living in a trailer park saying I wanted to change the world. I choose to share and open the doors to my life personally and professionally and that is how I want to live all the days of my life. It is the road less traveled and often the most challenging and painful road--and it is also the most fulfilling and most real for me. I have met too many naysayers and they are my fuel. The cliche that "this isn't a dress rehearsal" rings true for me. We all have a finite amount of time to spend on this planet. There is a deep sense of freedom that comes with giving yourself permission to be wholly yourself. Come what may. Reality VS fantasy: In an ideal world, we believe that what you give, you will receive in return when the time is right. So, you grow up building your character on great values, you build a strong personality, you build yourself for your success in life or maybe your life's goal. You then go out of your way, giving yourself 100 percent to everything you do or everyone you want to assist in life's journey ahead. You go all out... You do wonders and everyone who has stepped into your life or had a chance for you to step into theirs can honestly say great things about you. Then one day, you may reach out, ask for help, whatever and suddenly...... blank There is no real response or eagerness to help, regardless of everything you may have done or been through with them. Even those you may have helped, developed, encouraged, whatever the case may be, these people know you but see you as no real importance even though you may carry them highly in your life. ?? The Power of Your Inner Circle ?? There’s a reason why sayings like “iron sharpens iron” and “you are the equivalent of the top 5 people around you” are so popular. Reflecting on my experiences, I’ve come to understand the profound impact of our inner circles. In high school, my mom used to say, “Show me who your friends are and I’ll tell you who you are.” At the time, it didn’t fully resonate with me, especially since my friends and I were inseparable and often teased each other out of brotherly love. Even recently at work, I chose to sit with the “grunts” rather than the “leads” because I saw myself as a man of the people. Reflecting on it now, I realize I missed valuable opportunities. It wasn’t until another lead sat next to me due to limited seating that I started being more assertive. This shift helped me go from feeling overlooked to having my pick of opportunities. Whether in professional settings or personal life, your tribe, squad, or friend group can significantly influence who you are and who you can become.
