I've always thought that the 31st August would make a much better New Year's Eve than the end of December. It's so much easier to commit to new resolutions with light levels that little bit higher. Plus I can't avoid the "back to school" vibe that early September brings in the UK: tired looking leaves on the trees; a regret that the summer wasn't sunnier. It's also a time when professionals are encouraged to think about their CPD ("Continuous Professional Development") requirements before the hard close deadline coming up. When it comes to financial modelling training, I've always liked the precise, technical nature of its content: you either know it or you don't. And it's pretty satisfying to compare on a before and after basis. Here's my model before I went on the training... and here's what I can do now. For me, it ranks alongside (i) presentation skills and (ii) negotiation skills training as genuine career-changing experiences. Reading one of F1F9's blogs on the?different methods of learning (in classroom vs live online), I've come up with 3 resolutions for a person considering taking a financial modelling course: ·?????absorb as much free information as you can in preparing for your course; ·?????satisfy yourself that your training provider is teaching to a financial modelling standard that is recognised in the financial modelling community; and ·?????be prepared to ask lots and lots of questions of your instructor. Give them no rest.
