Not a day goes by when we do not hear something about artificial intelligence. And for good reason. While AI is not new, generative AI and chatbots, such as ChatGPT in late 2022, have captured the public’s imagination and reignited attention in the venture space.?And it is becoming more prominent in the financial services industry —?driving new business opportunities, streamlining operations, and improving financial inclusion. But AI is not magic, as some might have been led to believe; nor does it reason, in ways that humans do. And we must remain mindful of the multifaceted impact of the technology and the responsibilities that organizations must bear to ensure reliability, transparency, safety, security, explainability, privacy, and fairness. As we continue our innovation journey, we have a duty and shared responsibility in shaping a more human-centric, inclusive, and trustworthy future for all. Great paper, Theodora. Especially the section on trust is very well written. As you say, it takes years to build but can be lost in minutes, hence it needs to be front and center in building (Gen)AI systems
Responsible AI and what it means for society- thanks for sharing some light on our favourite topic: the mysteries of AI. I agree AI is no magic trick, but we sometimes can create magic with AI.
Looking forward to reading this. I have to print out these kinds of readings to be able to focus. Am I of another generation?
Looking forward to reading the report, Theo
Theodora Lau this is great and I’m going to look forward to reading this one. I’m actually moderating a panel covering AI next week so perfect timing!
It’s refreshing to see such a balanced view on AI! With all the hype around generative AI, it's easy to overlook the responsibilities that come with it. Your focus on making AI more transparent, fair, and inclusive really resonates. As we embrace these tools in financial services and beyond, it’s vital to remember the human impact and ensure that this technology serves everyone responsibly. Thank you for bringing these important values to the conversation. It’s a reminder that innovation and integrity should go hand in hand.
AI creates opportunities but demands responsible human stewardship. Vigilant transparency.
AI impacts everyone; ethics must guide progress transparently.
Theodora Lau, generative AI's role in fintech is fascinating, but let’s not forget the ethical tightrope we’re walking. What are your thoughts on that?
