Health Challenges Necessitate Urgent Upgrades to Public Health Labs The HOK article, Investing in the Future of Public Health: The New Wave of Lab Construction, outlined the importance of updating public health labs to accommodate high-tech equipment and keep pace with the latest in genome sequencing and diagnosing illnesses. Not to mention the importance of ensuring the highest safety and biocontainment standards. According to HOK's research, lab infrastructure requires urgent modernization and with this demand, they are currently designing three public health facilities. In conversation with David Schwartz, author contributor and AIA, LEED AP, regional leader Science in Technology in New York, he shares his insights for the top design trends they are implementing.

The Rise of Digital Health: Strategies for Effective Vendor Selection Since the pandemic, digital health has emerged as a major force in the medical field. Its definition can vary widely depending on the source. For example, the World Health Organization defines digital health in their Global Strategy on Digital Health report as "the field of knowledge and practice associated with the development and use of digital technologies to improve health." This can encompass everything from the familiar online patient portals we use today to the extensive array of health apps offering various services. Given the multitude of digital health technologies and platforms available, selecting the right vendors for your healthcare facilities remains a top priority.

I am excited to share that my joint paper with Professor Chris O'Donnell, titled "Incorporating Demand Constraints into Piecewise Frontier Models of Public Service Provision," has been published in Omega and is now available online with open access. Evaluating the performance of public service providers is often complicated by the fact that they must choose input levels before demands for their services are known. We consider an even more complicated situation in which service providers have no opportunity to directly influence demands. This means that their predetermined inputs may be more than what is required to meet realised demands. In such cases, conventional measures of revenue efficiency will generally mis-classify rational and efficient managers as inefficient. We develop a more appropriate measure of revenue efficiency that accounts for the fact that public service outputs cannot be stored and cannot exceed exogenously-determined demands. The methodology is applied to hospital and health service networks in Queensland (Australia). We find that most of these networks were able to maximise the revenue they could obtain from their predetermined inputs. You can read the full paper here:?https://lnkd.in/gcjqhsQS
