The 70th Association of Municipal Electricity Utilities Southern Africa (AMEU) , 2024 Convention is currently underway at SKUKUZA safari Lodge, Nombolo Mdlhuli Conference Centre. The main theme of the conference is #Future-Proofing the Municipal Electricity Utility Business in SA* .. I am honoured to have my paper accepted for this conference.. My topic as presented yesterday was mainly focusing on the #Implementation of the Sustainable Goals in Municipalities. The main focus was to explore the strategies for SA municipalities to achieve sustainable goals in their electricity distribution. Furthermore, the study highlighted the importance of adopting Business models that address energy sector challenges and opportunities. EAIF 2023 emphasised the critical need for patient #growth capital and concessional finance to scale up the DRE sector. The forum brought to light innovative approaches adopted by DRE companies, including holistic solutions like #agriprocessing hubs, which extend beyond mere #electricity provision. The report also addresses the crucial role of the private sector and the need for solid regulatory frameworks and enforceable contracts to boost #investor confidence. The report delves into the diverse market opportunities and challenges in various African regions, illustrating the complex landscape for DRE #deployment. I am excited to be participating in the Africa Energy Leadership Summit going on at the Kigali Convention Centre in Rwanda. ??This Leadership Summit is a truly pan-African event for senior decision makers in African who are engaged in closing the continent’s energy and power infrastructure gap. Held under the theme "Investments, Integration, Infrastructure, and Governance to Fuel the Energy Transition." The Summit aims to create partnerships and opportunities that will accelerate targeted interventions and achieve the objectives and pillars outlined in the Africa Power Vision to Action Initiative, and by extension the Program for Infrastructure Development in Africa (PIDA) for a just, fair, and equitable energy transition. ?? Mini-grids can raise ambition in meeting 1.5c targets in emerging economies, reduce fx pressures from diesel and petrol imports that power the millions of off-grid generators that meet the energy demand (often at higher costs) to the poor and marginalised. Layered on this, mini-grids ??- homes, learning & educational experiences. ??- runs businesses, micro factories etc for productive uses. ?? - increases incomes & improves livlihoods ?? - reduces pressures on women & children ??- replacing biomass cookstoves with electric/rLNG raises ambition on cooking experience and reduces impact on native forests and fragile ecosystems where charcoal and fuel wood is sourced without tracking. Improve balance of payment positions for emerging economies.
