A big step towards circularity in medical devices! This week saw the release of the Design for Life?Roadmap (link below), a major milestone for the future of medtech in the UK. At Pd-m, we are proud to have been part of the workshops held by the DHSC, working alongside over 80 stakeholders from industry, the NHS, academia, and regulatory bodies to shape this forward-looking initiative. This program sets out a vision for a circular approach in medtech—designing, procuring, and processing medical products to enable reuse, remanufacturing, or recycling. By extending the lifespan of products, we can preserve value, foster innovation, and support the transition to a net-zero NHS, all while delivering better patient care and cost efficiency. The roadmap highlights six key challenges, from aligning strategies and changing behaviours, to evolving regulations and fostering transformative innovation. Addressing these will be crucial to achieving the 2045 vision of a robust circular system, minimizing environmental impact while driving economic growth. It’s exciting to see the sector come together to formalise a roadmap supporting a net-zero transformation. We at Pd-m are eager to continue collaborating and advocating for the key role of design in the journey, whilst actively working with clients today on shaping their products to support a more sustainable and resilient medtech landscape. https://lnkd.in/e4yBKEMB #DesignForLife #MedTech #Sustainability #CircularEconomy #NetZeroNHS #wetakeyoufurther

Thanks for the namecheck Rich Shaw. The planets are beginning to align around reusable devices (and textiles). Circularity is core to our business model, it was there from day one, and we will never deviate from it. Here's a link to the Design for Life Roadmap https://lnkd.in/eZKUQbzb

This is a major leap into the #netzero future and I am delighted that Rich Shaw of Pd-m was well placed to make a contribution to the thinking. Moving from #singleuse to a more #circularmodel is not always straightforward, but this guidance helps define where the lower hanging fruit probably exist for the easier innovative changes. This sets us on the path! #climatechange #healthtechinnnovation #designforlife #sustainable #sustainablity #reuse #resources

The transition from the current linear model to a proposed future, i.e., a circular model, holds a promising future in the healthcare industry. This shift reflects a sustainable medical device production, utilization, and disposal approach. This blog aims to underscore the existing challenges with linear production and how embracing circularity in medical devices can address resource wastage, lower carbon footprint, and curb resource depletion. Explore our blog to gain deeper insights on the subject. https://lnkd.in/gsMtjVjB #SustainableHealthcare #CircularModel #HealthFutuNearSociety

Are you involved in medtech? Interested in innovation? Last week, the UK Government released its ‘Design for Life’ Roadmap, an initiative of the medical technologies and innovation directorate in DHSC dedicated to delivery of a circular approach to medtech. It has been developed by more than 80 stakeholders from across the UK medtech industry. The goal of this roadmap is to transition away from the use of avoidable single-use medtech products, towards a ‘functional circular system’, by 2045. The roadmap outlines six problem statements: 1.??????Leadership and alignment 2.??????Behavioural change 3.??????Commercial incentivisation 4.??????Regulations and standards 5.??????Physical and digital infrastructure 6.??????Transformative innovation Additionally, the programme defines four primary objectives to tackle the above problems: 1.??????Boost UK growth 2.??????Improve NHS resilience 3.??????Reduce waste and emissions 4.??????Generate substantial cost savings It is fantastic to see a focus on innovation and collaboration within the medtech industry to bring positive changes in future.
