As parents, we want to provide these over-the-top experiences for our children. Kids go on museum trips, pay for park experiences (such as trampoline parks, pools, etc.), go to amusement parks, etc. We have to buy the experience, the food, bring friends, etc. But what if we were honest with ourselves about why we do it? We do that to make sure our kids feel loved. But imagine if we did it on a budget? Are you taking them to the children’s museum, doing the basic admission package, bringing lunch, or planning to go in between meal times? Get a trampoline instead of going to the parks; then your kids can exercise every day (I know paying to take my kids about five times would pay for a trampoline itself). Amusement parks can be spendy cost traps. We have one near our house, and the admission alone was $100, but you must buy tickets or wristbands for rides. We went with my 12-year-old and two friends last year and were there for about 2 hours, then left. I know if we did it again, we could have done better. One hack that I’ve implemented this year for birthdays and holidays is to ask for gift cards for experiences that they can do with their friends. This typically pays for admission to something they really want to do with their friends.
