Hi all! Back with another mind-blowing space and pharma story that will change how you see medical innovation! ?
?
Did we just find a “kill switch” for #cancer??
?
According to a recent reel from BBC, Scientists hypothesised a kill switch to Cancer in space.?
?
The cancer tumour triples in size in 10 days in space while it would take a decade on Earth. The reason behind it is the microgravity.?
?
Dr. Catriona Jamieson, Hematologist, UC San Diego School of Medicine underscores the significance of this finding by noting that if cancer can proliferate rapidly in space, it opens the door for equally rapid experimentation by scientists.?
?
Taking advantage of this phenomenon, the team at UC San Diego tested a new experimental #drug named #Rebecsinib. This drug targets the ADAR1 gene, also known as the cancer cloning gene, aiming to deactivate or genetically suppress it. Preliminary tests conducted during the space mission indicate that #Rebecsinib may indeed act as a promising "kill switch" for cancer.?

Dr. Catriona also highlights another intriguing aspect: “Microgravity is like a rocket fuel for aging stem cells”.?
