#LearningFriday is here and today we are explaining Open Smart Grid Protocol ?? ? Smart grids are advanced power systems that utilize digital communication technology to monitor and manage electricity distribution efficiently. The Open Smart Grid Protocol (OSGP) is a standardized communication protocol used in smart grid systems for managing and controlling devices such as smart meters, sensors, and other grid equipment. ???? OSGP enables interoperability between various devices and systems within the smart grid infrastructure, allowing utilities to efficiently collect data, monitor energy consumption, and remotely control grid assets. ? OSGP is designed to ensure security, reliability, and scalability in smart grid deployments, facilitating the integration of renewable energy sources, demand response programs, and other advanced grid management functionalities. ?? We, at OSGP Alliance, are dedicated to promoting the adoption of the Open Smart Grid Protocol (OSGP) and infrastructure for smart grid applications towards a future proof modern smart grid. ?? V2G: Closing the Gap, Moving the Needle, Making a Meaningful Difference V2G is a crucial technology to enable the Energy Transition, and keeping electricity affordable, reliable, resilient, and increasingly green. However, V2G has not scaled in any meaningful way, despite more that 150 V2G trials have been conducted worldwide over the last 15 years. Today V2G solutions are mainly between a single EV OEM and 1 (or a few) EVSE OEMs interoperable with typically 1 grid operator (DSO – Distributed System Operator) using proprietary versions of protocols like 15118-X or DIN. These “island” solutions are not interoperable and prevent industrial scaling to increase competition and lower the cost of V2G (which today is too high), gain widespread market penetration and avoid stranded infrastructure assets. Like the mobile phone industry, we need interoperable solutions so different brand EVs can interoperate with different EVSE brands through a common international standard protocol and also be interoperable with different DSOs. To move the V2G needle we need interoperability on a global scale. Interoperability does not overcome all barriers (tariffs, legal,..) but without interoperability V2G will not scale in a meaningful way. Now enter the International Energy Agency (IEA) Task 53: Interoperability of Bidirectional Charging. Our main objectives are: Goal:? To ensure interoperability (aiming at a consortia-agreement based on ISO 15118-20) of bidirectional charging between vehicles (EV), charging stations (EVSE) and distribution grids (DSO - supporting grid codes). Time frame:? Limited to 2024 – max. 2027 (when the mission is accomplished). Deliverables:? Successful interoperable V2G-operations with at least 3 different EV-OEMs, at least 3 different bidirectional-EVSEs and 5 different DSOs. How we achieve our objectives: 1.????Identifying Gaps and Bugs? Task53 will gather insights on GAPs and BUGs in current standards and regulations (focusing on ISO15118-2X) affecting interoperable bidirectional charging. Experts are invited to upload GAPs and BUGs on?https://lnkd.in/gWmqVsBT 2.????Testing and Research? Task 53 and its’ Partners - including EU Joint Research Center and Argonne National Laboratories, DEKRA, CharIN, VGIC, etc. - will organize testing activities facilitating knowledge exchange to harmonize bidirectional interoperability (AC, DC, Wireless). 3.????Awareness and Advocacy? Task53 and it’s Partners will work together to promote interoperable bidirectional charging technologies through industry events, publications, and outreach efforts, enhancing understanding of the benefits of V2G solutions by the adoption of?common standard-implementation. USA, EU (DG), Switzerland, South Korea, Spain, Denmark and Germany have already joined. Now it is time to onboard industrial partners (EV, EVSE, DSOs,..) Learn more about Task 53 (www.Task53.org)? The need for one unified platform and solution which can serve as an Electric Service Interface (ESI) is the most sought after solution. The Q platform is so intelligent and precise it can control and manage GENIUS? smart panels installed in one home, business, or the utilities entire customer base all under one unified platform. GENIUS? can prevent blackouts and brownouts if installed across a utility's jurisdiction with its load management and ability to sequentially introduce power to each and every load within the premises. GENIUS? is UL certified, CSA certified, Revenue Grade certified and EU certified for Europe. "GENIUS? gives customers insight into how they can manage their energy use in a way that is going to help them the most, all while benefitting the planet. The ability to shift energy consumption away from peak periods does not just reduce costs for the consumer, it creates more demand for renewables – it is also increasing the reliability of the grid" says Vic Burconak, Founder, President & CEO of Koben https://lnkd.in/ghYYx7xE
