Transitioning to a #lowcarbon economy can take various forms, one of which is structural change, particularly tertiarization. When the economic structure shifts from being dominated by sectors that rely heavily on #fossilfuels to one that does not, the economy can become less carbon-intensive. The relocation of Indonesia's capital city from #jakarta to #EastKalimantan is an example of how a traditionally resource-intensive regional economy may respond to the sudden emergence of a large-scale service sector, in this case, the government sector. Efforts to Polish KEK to Make It Attractive to Investors JAKARTA. Investment realization in special economic zones (KEK) showed positive results until the third quarter of 2024. For this reason, the government continues to encourage the realization of investment in KEK so that it can achieve this year's target. Head of the Investment, Cooperation and Communication Bureau of the National KEK Council, Bambang Wijanarko, said that throughout this year until September 2024, investment realization in KEK has reached IDR 46.5 trillion. This result is equivalent to 59.5% of the investment target set for 2024 in KEK, namely IDR 78.1 trillion. "The investment achievement in KEK from January to September 2024 is worth IDR 46.5 trillion with the employment of 17,990 people," he said to KONTAN, Friday (8/11) last week. Bambang targets that the investment results will continue to increase, considering that there are still six SEZs that will soon report their progress until the third quarter of this year. The six SEZs whose reports are still awaited are the Kendal SEZ, the Galang Batang SEZ, the Sanur SEZ, the Batam Aero Technic SEZ, the Banten International Education, Technology and Health, as well as the Batam International Health Tourism SEZ. "[The six SEZs] have not submitted SEZ development reports until the third quarter of 2024," said Bambang. The largest investment realization in 2024 will come from the Gresik KEK, namely IDR 21 trillion. Followed by the Kendal SEZ with an investment of IDR 11 trillion until the end of I-2024. In total, since the KEK was launched several years ago until September 2024, investment realization has reached IDR 220.6 trillion. As investment increases, the number of business actors in SEZs continues to increase, reaching 379 business actors as of September 2024. Meanwhile, the total number of workers who have been absorbed in SEZs up to the same period has reached 135,083 workers "This amount (investment and workforce) is certain to continue to increase," hoped Bambang. The government has developed a number of strategies to achieve this year's investment targets, including encouraging development and management business entities (BUPP) to optimize performance in each KEK area. Priority projects is an important part of Indonesian governments national strategy. One aspect of this is also the ease of setting up a special economical zone (KEK).
