Alleviating climate-related constraints faced by agri-food systems in sub-Saharan Africa requires an accelerated adoption of climate-smart agriculture (CSA) innovations by farmers. However, little is known about the best-bet CSA innovations and the enabling conditions for their widespread adoption in specific contexts, like #Mali. ?? Recent research conducted under AICCRA in Mali uses a participatory framework to identify and prioritize context-specific best-bet innovations AND to assess the barriers, incentives, and roles of institutions for their widespread adoption. The framework used in this study can be applied to other contexts to identify and invest in locally relevant best-bet climate-smart agriculture innovation packages. ?? As an agronomist and founder of Abuti Spinach, I am excited to share with you the latest developments in African agriculture. The African Union's recent summit in Uganda marks a significant milestone in our journey towards achieving food self-sufficiency on the continent. The gathering of agricultural ministers and stakeholders is a clear indication of the AU's commitment to advancing a new strategy for Africa's food security. The summit provides a platform for policymakers, farmers, and industry experts to discuss innovative solutions, share best practices, and identify opportunities for collaboration. By leveraging technology, improving agricultural productivity, and enhancing regional trade, we can unlock the full potential of Africa's agricultural sector. As we move forward, it is essential to prioritize the needs of small-scale farmers, who are the backbone of our food systems. As we strive to create a more food-secure Africa, I encourage you to join the conversation and share your thoughts on how we can work together to achieve this vision. What role do you think agriculture can play in driving economic growth and sustainable development on the continent? Let's work together to empower farmers, promote agricultural innovation, and build a brighter future for Africa's agricultural sector ?????? #abutispinach #Agvocate #AgroDiplomacy[Collection]

Last week, I participated in a high-level seminar on resilient drylands: Innovation for sustainable agricultural landscapes and livelihoods. This webinar, organized by the FAO Plant Production and Protection Division (NSP), explored innovative approaches to addressing the complexity and harnessing the potential of dryland agriculture to build local resilience and adaptive capacity. It aligns with the FAO Strategic Framework 2022–2031, which emphasizes the transformation towards more efficient, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable agrifood systems. Specifically, I shared some insights on how our work at Sahel Consulting and African Food Changemakers is promoting entrepreneurship and agrifood innovations in the drylands across Africa and highlighted the need to: ? Support agri-food entrepreneurs to scale successful private sector-led initiatives, e.g., backward integration models and service provision models for farmers. ? Empower agrifood entrepreneurs to build resilience against climate shocks. ? Leverage infrastructure development to harness dryland resources such as solar energy to power agriculture and other industries. ? Create knowledge hubs for data and information exchange for informed business decisions and evidence-based program design and implementation in drylands e.g. scaling ongoing initiatives like the African Food Changemakers’ Hub.? ? Support the creation of a policy platform for a coordinated voice on the development of drylands in Africa. Drylands account for about 75% of the area used for agriculture in Africa, and promoting innovative solutions for increased productivity in drylands is key to building sustainable agrifood systems. #FoodSystemsChange #SustainableAgriculture #NutritionSecurity #IMAGINE #SahelConsulting #FoodandNutritionExpert #AfricanAgriculture
