Extra Time! - We're not on about the Euros either... BT Group has announced a delay in the shutdown of all copper-based phone lines until 2027, extending the original deadline by two years. The decision aims to improve the switch-off program, prioritizing the protection of vulnerable customers and those with additional needs, including telecare users. Originally set for December 2025, the shutdown of BT’s Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) will now give businesses and consumers more time to transition smoothly. This delay aligns with BT’s ambitious goal to deliver full fiber broadband to 25 million premises by 2026. As of last week, BT’s subsidiary, Openreach, has already reached 14 million premises. This extension provides a valuable opportunity to ensure that your business is ready for the upcoming changes. Don’t wait until the last minute—start planning your transition to full fiber now. BT scraps digital landline switch deadline BT has significantly delayed plans to force customers to switch from physical copper-based landlines to internet-based services following concerns from vulnerable people. The switch was paused at the end of last year after?several incidents where telecare devices stopped working. Nearly two million people in the UK use personal alarms which rely on landlines. Many of them only require basic calling services, yet they are forced to pay for data packs they don’t use. It’s time for telecom companies to consider launching call-only recharge packs at affordable rates. This small step could make a huge difference in ensuring accessibility and affordability for millions of people across rural and urban areas. What are your thoughts? Should this be prioritized?

At a time where connectivity is key, there is so much talk about infrastructure investment and the need for engagement - how can anyone engage with anyone or anything until the mobile networks Vodafone Three UK O2 (Telefónica UK) EE and the Infrastructure owners provides a mobile network that is fit for purpose. Because, currently it is not operational and is a disgrace, and bearing in mind the charges we all incur they all need to start investing in bringing it up to a standard that will consistently enable people to do business. #poorservice #connectivity
