Closing this week with my takeaways from NODE.Health's #DigitalMedicineConference in #NYC: ?? The most popular #GenAI use cases for health systems currently in production are AI chatbots and AI scribes. ?? Many health systems have formed AI steering committees that include clinicians. These committees are evaluating proposed use cases and creating governance processes/infrastructure. If your healthcare organization does not have a steering committee in place, this is a good starting point. ?? Health systems should not wait for federal or state regulators to put guardrails in place. Work with industry peers and partners to set your own safeguards to keep pace with innovation. ?? 80% of healthcare data is unstructured. Investments in ML and mature cloud environments are critical to realize the value in the data that health systems are capturing. ?? There is a talent gap in AI. Many health systems have ambitions of using generative AI to reduce the burden of physician burnout, but they do not have the AI engineers to turn these ambitions into usable tools.
