APCL 12 Days of Christmas #10! ?? A&P Falmouth successfully completed a programme of works for Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines' Balmoral. Balmoral entered dry dock at A&P Falmouth on 1st December for a two-week programme of maintenance, including an ultra-high pressure water blast of the underwater hull, application of silicone paint to improve fuel efficiency and installation of new propellers and bow thrusters. A workforce of more than 700 people helped to complete the busy programme, including 350 Fred. Olsen crew, and 30 apprentices at A&P Falmouth. Samantha Stimpson, CEO of Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines, said: “This has been an incredibly successful dry dock programme, allowing us to not only conduct important maintenance but also make some exciting enhancements for our guests. “The maintenance and improvements we have made, including through the repainting of the hull and the upgrading of our propeller and stabilisers, will allow us to sail more efficiently and sustainably, whilst continuing to offer a comfortable and enjoyable experience on-board. “This is our third schedule of work to be completed by the team at A&P Falmouth, and continues our commitment to using UK shipyards, supporting the local economy and supply chain, and providing valuable experience to the workforce and it’s apprentices.” David McGinley, CEO of APCL Group, said: “APCL was delighted to welcome the Balmoral back to A&P Falmouth for what is her second refit at the facility. “APCL is proud of its ongoing relationship with Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines. This is the fifth dry docking to take place at APCL’s facilities and the knowledge and vital Learning from Experience we are developing on each vessel is enabling us to help minimise the downtime of the Fred. Olsen Fleet. “Contracts such as these make a significant economic contribution to the prosperity of the UK and helps to support our workforce and apprenticeship programme. We look forward to continuing our partnership with Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines over the months and years to come and we send our best wishes to Balmoral, her crew and passengers as they set sail on their next adventure.”

VIKING Life-Saving Equipment in Arendal is producing electrical lifeboats for the Hugin A and Hugin B platforms in the Yggdrasil area. ? 80 people, including apprentices, are involved in the work, where VIKING is developing new technology enabling Hugin A to be periodically unmanned. ? The company is one of over 250 suppliers in Norway delivering directly to Aker BP's ongoing major project portfolio.

She’s no stranger to the good ol high vis and steel caps ???? Before I landed myself in Hunty HQ, I actually worked in the training industry for 2.5yrs. That time was split between two businesses, one specialising in short courses (Units of Competencies / Licences) in the Industrial Training space (Forklift, Work Safely at Heights, Confined Spaces, EWP, Excavator, Skid Steer, Telehandler, Front End Loader, Dogging, Rigging, Cranes… the list goes on) While the other focused on Full Qualifications (Think Cert II / III / IV & Traineeships / Apprenticeships) within multiple sectors (Local Government, Water Industry Ops, Construction/Civil Construction Land Management etc) My time was split between gallivanting around on site, GoPro in tow capturing all the fun that went on during the courses, preparing course documentation, brochures, social media posts, updating policies and doing the admin processing / paperwork in the background. What’s the relevance here you’re wondering? Between all that time there’s no surprise I picked up a wholeeee load of knowledge around those industries. I was constantly researching (working in marketing, I had to become an expert myself), I was surrounded by industry experts everyday and was constantly overhearing key aspects of that training and how it translated into real world scenarios. Safety, compliance, regulations, certificate requirements - I have experience working alongside the best of the best (maybe I’m bias because I loved our crew ??) but I was consistently in the thick of it. Once again, relevance you’re wondering? Well if you’re looking for someone in the labour hire space, I’m not just a pretty face, I’m now working with the same demographic that I’ve spent the past 3yrs marketing to. I know how to attract the best candidates (after all I used to attract them as participants) and I come with the added bonus of industry experience - it’s a win win! And like I said, I’m not afraid to throw on the high vis and steel caps - I’ll see you onsite ???? (Video of the fun we used to get up to)
