Thanks to the Financial Times for publishing my response today to their article 'Are you ready to go electric?'. For EVs to be adopted by the next wave of consumers, the cost of public charging must come down. We're currently running a trial with Octopus Electroverse, funded by the Department for Transport (DfT), United Kingdom, that seeks to understand the price elasticity of public charging demand, and magnitude of flexibility it can deliver. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA)(https://lnkd.in/ebuUrEsk), at least 3,000 GW of renewable power projects are waiting in grid connection queues. And while investment in renewables has nearly doubled since 2010, investments in grid systems has remained relatively unchanged. As we rapidly expand deployment of renewables - including by meeting the COP28 pledge to triple ( ? ) the world's installed renewable generation capacity by 2030 - aging grids are becoming the bottleneck. This terrific resource aims to identify pathways to accelerate the near-term deployment of key, commercially available but underutilized advanced grid technologies. ?

Utility companies are facing labor shortage, high pressure on expanding the energy grid, and increasing outage due to increased energy production and demand. To optimize when and where we need to have our engineers do specific work we need to shift towards predictive maintenance. But how to do that with a huge population of not-smart transformers? With Oktogrid, a Danish start-up, we are doing a pilot with their non invasive retrofit sensors and advanced data models for real time asset health insights. Last Monday we showcased our pilot to other Dutch industry leaders. The highlight was a challenging discussion about how to utilize data and AI in the energy transition!
