The RUFORUM Triennial Conference 2024 in Namibia commenced with a distinguished welcome dinner, bringing together key stakeholders from across Africa and beyond. This gathering provided a valuable platform for collaboration, where key stakeholders could exchange ideas and explore opportunities to drive innovation and growth within the continent's education sector. Our Managing Partner Bunmi Akinyemiju, and Andrea Kates Partner at Suma Ventures representing the VGG/GHC team, highlighted our commitment to scaling impactful solutions through private sector involvement. Their participation reinforced the importance of bridging the gap between academia, industry, and government to address Africa’s challenges with sustainable, scalable solutions. This dinner set the tone for the rest of the conference, where we fostered meaningful partnerships that will fuel entrepreneurship, economic development, and innovation across Africa. #RUFORUM2024 #Namibia #GreenhouseCapital #PrivateSectorImpact #Collaboration #Innovation #Entrepreneurship #AfricaRising #SustainableDevelopment"

Currently considering an innovation hub in The Hague, Netherlands ????, for entrepreneurs in the African diaspora - and anyone building innovative solutions to Africa’s biggest challenges. Any ideas who i should speak to about this? The hub would embrace a hybrid model (physical space and digital platforms) to serve entrepreneurs anywhere in the world, including within Africa. Note: This does not affect ongoing discussions for local hubs in various African cities. Terrible idea or worth pursuing further? We can build this together, the same way we built Norrsken East Africa from scratch. Your thoughts are needed ?????? SBIR in DM network meeting. It was a pleasure meeting impact investors and entrepreneurs who are innovating with impact in African countries tackling societal challenges and creating new markets. With the theme being How to navigate the innovation path for impact, valuable experiences were shared amongst each other. Conclusions: Impactful innovations solve a real problem ??, have a solid base in African contexts, build on cooperation with other entrepreneurial partners and develop (new) business models. Getting to successful commercialization is however time consuming and challenging. Many risks need to be eliminated and value needs to be created. Open-minded and problem-solving entrepreneurship is key. The RVO SBIR in DM team organized speed dates between entrepreneurs and impact investors in the morning. SBIR entrepreneurs were able to pitch their innovation to 5 different investors (#BusinessAngelsConnect, #InvestInternational, #BIDCapitalPartners, #HivosImpactInvestments #DraperRichardsKaplanfoundation). The afternoon was for networking and lecture on different flavours of capital and critical success factors for scaling by #Lisa Jordan of the Draper Richards Kaplan foundation. SBIR in Developing Markets is a programme funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It aims to encourage entrepreneurs in the Netherlands to innovate and co-create with African entrepreneurs to combine business and impact ??. Thanks for sharing Andrés! If you haven't already, check out our article on Entrepreneurship and Special Economic Zones recently published in the UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD) Transnational Corporations Journal. Susanne Frick and I have explored how SEZs could promote local entrepreneurship. Initiatives like targeted skills development, networking, and providing business-friendly regulations can reinforce spillovers effects. In addition, tailoring policies & infrastructure to the specific needs of local entrepreneurs, rather than offering generic incentives, is crucial for effectiveness.
