If I was getting hired on as the first sales hire at a seed stage company this is what I would do. Disclaimer: I have never done this before. So I'm just making this up. But this is what I'd do. The same principles would apply if I was building an outbound program or SDR program at a more established company as well. Stage 1: ? Analyze C/W deals. If CRM data exists we download everything in a csv and have AI analyze why we win. CRM data is less emotional than asking someone. You see how what % of deals had X no. of stakeholders, what verticals/geos close fastest, etc. ? Make look-a-like list w/AI and start calling them, see what it takes to book a meeting. ? If there is not a followup framework built in the CRM for cold calling, build it. Too many companies are leaving millions on the table by half-assing the CRM. Stage 2: ? Get our current customers to help us write our first email sequence. You never have to guess what you should be saying to prospects. Your customers will tell you. ? Setup email infrastructure. Not much to say - buy domains. ? Start running first email campaigns with generalized messaging to a small group of great-fit accounts. ? We want to run different "sprints" of cold-calling and email campaigns with different angles, possibly different segmentations of the market to determine where the easiest wins are. Easy wins in booking meetings doesn't necessarily mean easy path to revenue though, which we'll be cognizant of. Stage 3: ? By this point we have a much more solid idea of our TAM/ICP. We will map the TAM and pull all accounts into the CRM that we think we can sell. ? Find data on the internet we can extract that will make an impact in a cold call or cold email. ? Automate gathering this data & populate our dialer w/it to use on cold calls ? Start shooting out some LinkedIn dm's. We're doing this last is because if you message someone next quarter they will still have your shitty original message in their inbox. LinkedIn is as close to "one shot" as it gets. Stage 4: ? By now the founders will have progressed some cold sourced deals down pipe and possibly closed a few. I will be running the sales cycles farther down pipe and possibly closing some. ? We will now start working on deal stage progression and SOPs including onboarding and implementation, gearing up for sales hire 2 and 3. ? We have had some wins by now and need to start thinking about the best marketing channels - paid ads, facebook, linkedin etc. ? Trade shows are a big investment but by now we will know which ones to go to. If any of that sounds cool you should know that I'm #opentowork ?????????????? ?????? ?????? ?????????????????? ??????????: ? Founding Sales rep ? GTM Engineer ? This sounds great. What would change in the following for a founder led sales motion ? I understand you have lesser data points there but the ab testing frameworks seem to work there as well
Stage 1 for a Seed round you will find the CRM is generally trash. If your consulting in the space the best thing that could happen is getting transcripts from meetings or calls.
??benyamin ? if you're sales person #1 there are no closed lost in the CRM. You might get to look at the founders notebook in a 1:1 if you're lucky
Excellent breakdown. This is a lot of what I did when I was early stage sales hire except you made a few key improvements.
Good luck ??benyamin ? I'm sure you'll crush it

6 个月Before you take the "If I was sales #1 hire" role, be sure to ask the Founder: "What is your definition of a startup?" If the answer is anything other than "We iterate and pivot fast until we find something that we can scale," RUN! Why, because anything other than that regardless of how it's positioned is: "My ego and I have an idea and..." Like, I said, just RUN! #TalkSoon P.S. I know I'm waaaaaaay off topic, but I felt like flex'n on Founders, so... ?? ??????
