Turning Trauma into Triumph! ??? Bilfinger UK's Matthew Crossen is hoping to lead the England Cerebral Palsy Team to victory in the IFCPF World Cup in Spain, before hanging up his boots this November. Matthew, who is based at our Fabrication Facility in Hull, has played for the England CP team for the last 10 years, and has been Captain for the last five. After suffering a stroke at the age of 23, Matthew who was a semi-professional footballer, wasn’t sure if he’d run again, let alone play football. However, he was soon back on his feet! ?? Matthew commented on his experience: “The journey I’ve been on, it’s not been easy. It’s been hard work but suffering a stroke has been the best thing that’s ever happened to me.” We wish Matthew all the best of luck in November! ?? #TeamBilfinger #CerebalPalsy #IFCPFWorldCup #England

Man United says goodbye to Sir Alex Ferguson. ? Do you agree? Alex Ferguson will continue to be a non-executive director of the club. But he will no longer have an advisory contract. ?? The new cost-cutting policy explains the choice. ? Cost reduction In 2023/2024 Manchester United had a turnover of €785m For the 5th consecutive financial year, it closed the budget with a loss: €-135m. It makes around €-340m in five years. ?? INEOS, the new minority shareholder, but with control of the club's operations is implementing a cost-cutting policy. ? Thoughts Sir Ferguson is and always will be an icon of football and Man United's legend. At the same time, INEOS feels that the club needs to improve both on and off the pitch. It is a sensitive issue. ? What do you think? #footballbusiness #legend #strategy

NOT IN MY NAME come to mind? Is the UK selling out to fossil fuels (1, 2)? And is Great Britain selling its name (Britannia) to petrochemicals giant INEOS for £100 million, to be spent on America's cup (3)? The UK already gave INEOS £600 million in backing for it's "carbon bomb" petrochemical plant in the Netherlands (4) (1) A week ago today we heard that £22 billion of UK tax payers money is to be spent on fossil fuels' carbon capture and storage that does not work and will never compete with not burning fossil fuels in the first place and spending money on real solutions. Post here https://lnkd.in/euCx_EyR? (2) These £22 billion are in addition to the $7 trillion that fossil fuels received worldwide as they are neither explicit subsidies ($1.3 trillion) or implicit subsidies ($5.7 trillion), that cover undercharging for environmental costs and forgone consumption taxes. IMF study here https://lnkd.in/e2AH3eZy (3) Today its another fossil fuels company's win. Petrochemicals' giant INEOS that has associated its name with the UK for £100 million it will apparently spend on the America's cup. This is probably the best return of investment of the $5.3 billion spent on sportswashing. https://lnkd.in/eQknUc_y What a great promotion for INEOS, the UK, not so much. UK's image is further tarnished by associating itself yet again with fossil fuels and petrochemicals. Rugby has been essential to teaching me how resilience is forged in moments of adversity... After what I thought was retirement for the last 4 years - I took the decision to join a promotion hungry local side, Wilmslow RUFC. We lost our first 2 games. It tested our team spirit, but true winners rise above setbacks. We learnt from the failure, building strength, and believing in each other in those hard moments. The journey from those early unexpected losses to beating top of the table demanded grit and unity. To clinch victory on the final play shows the power of perseverance, mental toughness, and unshakable belief. Resilience on the rugby field mirrors the challenges faced in today’s civil engineering sector. Just as a team must overcome early losses, engineers are confronting unprecedented obstacles—whether it’s adapting to new regulations, evolving construction methods, budgetary cuts or addressing climate change’s impact on infrastructure. Thriving in this environment requires innovation, collaboration, and a relentless pursuit of excellence. Leaders must rise above setbacks, embrace change, and push boundaries to create sustainable solutions. It’s this same resilience that will drive the sector forward, transforming challenges into opportunities for growth and success. #rugby #civilengineering #resilience #inspiration

And the winner is...support. How good is the huge transition, from purely competition to supportive collaboration at these Olympics. From BMX and skateboarding to kayak and kickin' in the pool. There is so much to emulate in our workplaces and industries. Take note politicians. Gold! #loveyourwork in every way. RCSA Australia and New Zealand proud to be part of a transition from competitor to collaborative. #recruitment #staffing #employment #rcsa

https://lnkd.in/eWV-y4KU You don't need to bother with an "audit". Just wonder a little bit about how all the competitive rowing crews in a country of 65 million are blonde and blue-eyed. An incredible coincidence, isn't it? Or read the complaints sent to the federation. Or the federation's responses that ignore all these complaints. If not, talk to the athletes who have obtained results through legal procedures. Or forget about it, nothing will change anyway, continue as you know... Continue auditing...

PNG Team in NRL 2028 The next 3 years, the government and PNGRFL must work together to improve the Rugby League standard before 2028... Clubs in Australia and England are operating as business enterprises and they have Millions of Dollars to contract players. What is so difficult for PNG to use the same model ??? Rugby League in PNG is just played for the love of the sport. Our Digicel ExxonMobil Clubs are very poor and they rely entirely on sponsors and it's been happening over many years but PNGRFL and the government never came up with a solution to improve the welfare of the players...... Can PNGRFL tell the people of PNG what strategies are in place to improve the welfare of the players in the Digicel ExxonMobil Clubs and the PNG NRL Team ???

So when I tell people I’m a referee for England Touch Rugby and in Health & Safety, a lot of people automatically think “you must really like enforcing rules!” Not true! Ref’ing in touch rugby is slightly different from other sports because the main focus of the officials is on the “outcome of the game.” You’re primarily there to ensure a good outcome for all the players, not just enforce the rules to the letter. So touch rugby referees talk to the players A LOT! It’s termed “pre-loading.” When we’re asked to put a particular focus on a certain rule, this is often to do more with ensuring a level of respect and decorum on the pitch rather than whether players are doing everything correctly. This has taught me so much in terms of how I approach my work, and helped me be more pragmatic while informing conversations with project teams. Rather than saying “this is what we have to do to obey the law” I’ve worked hard to try and understand what the desired outcome of a piece of legislation is, and the work with teams to find a route to achieving the outcome and objective. So do I really love rules? Okay yeah I’m a bit of a legal geek, but only because I like puzzles! And the thing I love most is seeing positive outcomes! ????
