Mirova, an affiliate of Natixis Investment Managers, is making waves in the renewable energy sector with the acquisition of a 60MWp solar park in Menorca, Spain. This project, developed by Qualitas Energy and Q-Impact, also has the potential for an additional storage capacity of up to 30MW. Located in the Mahon, the ready-to-build solar PV plant is set to begin construction by mid-2024, with an expected commissioning date in early 2026. Once operational, it is estimated to produce up to 92,000MWh annually, meeting approximately 20% of Menorca's electricity demand. Industry experts acknowledge the impressive progress, but emphasize the need for an annual increase of 50 GW to achieve the ultimate goal. Renewable energy sources have little to no fuel costs, leading to predictable and stable energy expenses. Additionally, these systems require minimal maintenance, further reducing long-term operational costs. In order to realise a future based on renewable energy, Joep shared the REFORMERS Energy Valleys - Horizon Europe quest of realising Europe’s first Renewable Energy Valley in Alkmaar and Heiloo. To achieve this ambition, emphasis is put on producing, storing and integrating multiple renewable energy carriers, as well as optimally integrating existing grid infrastructures and managing energy flows.
