If your editing doesn’t create goosebumps, laughs, or tears, then this isn’t your gig. ??♂? Don’t apply if: You’re more concerned about effects than emotion. ??? You can’t handle tight deadlines. ??♀??? You need a script to know what to do next. ?? We hire editors who see video as more than just clips. We need storytellers who can move an audience and make an impact. If that’s not you, bye. ????

Storytelling is one of the most challenging skills to master. Even as AI advances in editing, the true art lies in shaping and manipulating the narrative, a craft that remains uniquely human and incredibly difficult.

*An appeal to development execs and producers* It has now been 30 weeks since my last production script editing role wrapped. With so few opportunities on the horizon this dry spell may continue indefinitely, and I know many freelance script editors who are in a similar position. I am very fortunate that I have been able to take on film and tv development work over the last few months to keep me ticking over, and am extremely grateful to the friends, colleagues and collaborators who have brought work my way and helped make 2024 a little easier. Without this work, I would already have left the industry. But in the spirit of trying to hold on as long as possible, and hoping other freelancers can too, I would like to share the following with my in-house friends: 1. If you have a pot of development money, please consider sending some of it in the direction of freelancers. Bring us in for story/writers' rooms, but also think about where else we can be useful to you. If you've got a draft that's not working, a fresh pair of eyes from someone who's used to coming to a project late and diving head-first into story can bring valuable new perspective and reinvigorate the development process. 2. If you're hiring a production script editor, please cast your net wide - take generals, collect CVs, and give us a chance to show that we're the right match for your project!
