?? News Flash: Additive Manufacturing Meets Teleportation By harnessing advanced 3D printing and communication codes, German scientists developed the "Scotty" activator—a technology that mimics the teleportation of objects across distances. While not true teleportation like in sci-fi, this innovative system destructively scans an object in precise detail, transmitting the encrypted data to a 3D printer at a distant location—often in another country—where it’s reassembled! ?? It’s easy for us to get lost in all the disruption currently effecting virtually every facet of our lives. Who had ‘3D printing a purse’ on their bingo cards for 2024? With robots, AI, advancements in semiconductors, autonomous agentic systems, the discovery of thousands of new materials, AR/MR, the imminence of space tourism & mining, quantum computing… & yes, 3D — it can be hard for any of us to keep up. The reality is that even attempting to keep up is not only “all we can do”, but sets up up individually & societally for exponential success. When we share innovations, developments, our perspectives, concerns, ideologies & initiatives with our extended networks (read: LinkedIn) we can stay “ahead of the curve” en masse. As I love to reinforce: TOGETHER WE RISE. One of my attempts at contribution to this is a weekly newsletter here on LinkedIn called ‘Tech For Good’ — if you’re unfamiliar, I welcome you to check it out here: https://lnkd.in/d6AT-8fG (it’s totally free) & consider subscribing if you’re not already. Tech For Good — “that’s my bag, baby (yeah)”; said in my best Austin Powers voice. This video is demonstrating a new style of 3D printing called RLP (Rapid Liquid Print) that uses a gel suspension medium to enable fast, large-scale & highly customizable productions, allowing materials to be injected into a gel-like substance, where they can freely form intricate designs without the need of support structures. The process begins by suspending the printing material (silicon, rubber, et al) within a bath of gel which stabilizes the material while it takes shape & sets. This counteracts the effects of gravity, enables more complex geometries, & reduces print time substantially. Once the item has been printed, it’s removed from the gelatinous material & finished as desired. Once we can replicate & “birth” humans this way, we will officially be living in ‘The Matrix’. ?? Sure, here's the updated text: Did you know that since 2001, 14% of coral reefs have disappeared from the ocean? Our most biodiverse system is being affected by climate change, pollution, and physical damage. The Problem: If coral reefs continue to disappear, it could mean the long-term death of the entire ecosystem. The Solution: Traditional engineering makes it difficult to design coral reefs that look natural. To address this, the Miami-based tech company Kind Designs has used 3D scanning data of ocean coral reefs and 3D printing that don't affect our ocean to reproduce the ecosystem's natural appearance. What do you think about this? It can be done in another way? It can be done more efficient way? Leave a comment with your opinion. This is actually quite interesting. Not because it is cheaper, or faster, or sturdier then hand or machinewound electromagnets, no they definitely still win out. No, what is really interesting is that in this way we can make custom electromagnets that are very easy to predict and simulate. In this way we can create complex shaped magnets to create a certain desired magnetic field. This can even be used to work backwards. We can write programs that can create a magnet to create a certain magnetic field and then print what probably looks like a misshapen blob that does what we want it to do (hopefully) exactly as we want it. This will probably not find its way into production units, as i cant imagine the material being very strong, heat resistant and thus the magnetic fields achievable will likely be quite low. But this can help rapidly prototype these magnets for pennies. The production units will likely not be entirely 3D printed (yet). Very exciting technology, especially in context of brain computer interfaces, Neuralink will look positively like stoneage tech compared to what will be possible in a few years... but many other industries can benefit from it. Good stuff.
