During the #COVID19 vaccination response, many countries used #digital systems to capture vaccine administration data. Data backlogs - a build-up of information captured via paper forms not yet entered into digital systems - were common across countries, contributing to system delays and inaccuracies. As part of a special supplement collaboration, Digital Square at PATH worked with USAID MOMENTUM M-RITE to conduct a study to identify the root causes of COVID-19 vaccination data backlogs in #DRC, #Kenya, #Senegal, and #Tanzania based on interviews, site observations, and secondary data. The study found that root causes of data backlogs were related to: ?? technology: system slowdowns, insufficient devices, limited functionality ?? infrastructure: lack of reliable internet and data bundles ?? processes: incongruence between paper and digital, separate processes for COVID-19 vs routine immunization, and absence of SOPs; and ???? people: staff shortages, large workloads, and non-payment. In the quest to restore global immunization to pre-pandemic levels, some important data points are known: “We know where these children are (mostly in fragile and conflict-affected countries), and which vaccines they missed (measles vaccines, among others),”?writes a trio of authors from VillageReach. The authors map out what’s needed to address the digital divide—inequitable access to the internet and digital devices—describing their?Community Insights to Action (CITA) Framework?as a model for community-centered health programs built on community feedback. Why Young Adults Should Get Vaccinated for COVID-19 By Deborah Perry, LICSW Connect to End COVID-19 Ambassador As social workers dedicated to the well-being of young adults, we have a crucial role in encouraging them to get vaccinated against COVID-19. Our engagement and support can make a significant difference in their decisions and ultimately in the fight against this pandemic. Firstly, it's important to communicate the health benefits of vaccination to young adults. Vaccines significantly reduce the risk of severe illness, hospitalization, and long-term complications such as long COVID. Many young people may feel invincible, but the reality is that COVID-19 can have serious, lasting effects on their health. By getting vaccinated, they protect themselves from these risks. Moreover, we need to emphasize the community aspect of vaccination. Young adults play a vital role in preventing the spread of the virus to others, including vulnerable populations like the elderly and immunocompromised. Achieving community immunity requires high vaccination rates, and young adults are key to reaching this goal. We should also highlight how vaccination enables the return to normalcy with a clear conscience. Getting vaccinated allows young adults to safely resume social activities, travel, and in-person education, all of which are critical for their mental and emotional well-being. Additionally, high vaccination rates contribute to economic stability by reducing the strain on healthcare systems and preventing lockdowns. It’s also important to address the role of young adults in preventing the development of new variants. Vaccination reduces the spread of the virus, which in turn limits the opportunity for mutations that could result in more contagious or severe variants. As trusted figures, our encouragement can also help them see vaccination as a moral responsibility. By getting vaccinated, they demonstrate their commitment to protecting not just themselves but also their loved ones and the broader community. By actively engaging with young adults and addressing their concerns, we can help them make informed decisions about vaccination. Together, we can promote a healthier, safer future for everyone. NASW and the NASW Foundation have partnered with the Health Behavior Research and Training Institute (HBRT) at The University of Texas at Austin Steve Hicks School of Social Work in a $3.3 million Centers for Disease Control and Prevention-funded (CDC) initiative to support social workers and their clients in informed vaccine decision-making. Paper based approach affects our health systems (especially missing very important data from the initial level) in Nigeria and Africa!!!! With mission of leaving no one behind I was thinking to create a platform that will addresses a critical gap in healthcare infrastructure, particularly in regions like Africa specifically Nigeria where access to reliable networks and paper based approach can be challenging. The platform I propose could be called "ImmuTrack" or something similar, emphasizing its function of tracking immunization progress at Local, State, National, Regional and Global levels The platform (ImmuTrack ) would essentially be a digital platform designed to operate offline, ensuring accessibility even in remote areas with limited connectivity. Users, including healthcare workers and policymakers, would input immunization data directly into the platform using devices like smartphones or tablets. This data would then be stored locally on the device until a connection is available, at which point it would sync with a central database. The platform would also offer features such as real-time monitoring of immunization coverage, analysis of trends and gaps in vaccination programs, and automated reminders for follow-up doses. Additionally, it could generate customizable reports at various levels of administration, from local clinics to national health ministries, facilitating informed decision-making and resource allocation. By streamlining data collection and analysis, the platform( ImmuTrack) would not only improve the efficiency of immunization programs but also help identify areas for improvement and ensure that no one is left behind in the effort to protect public health. Launching, and how to the platform is the question left for more experienced lawmakers like Muhammad Ali Pate Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance World Health Organization The World Bank National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) Duke Global Health Institute
