We recently celebrated a Sankranthi in our office with a Rangoli celebration and a mini ramp walk. What struck me was the impact it had on our students from marginalized communities, who were experiencing the thrill of walking the ramp for the first time. It was heartwarming to see the confidence and joy it brought to their faces.The team came together to mark this special occasion, and we had a great time exchanging prizes, sharing traditional snacks, and enjoying each other's company The celebration was a great reminder of the importance of taking a break from our busy schedules and coming together . It was amazing to see everyone's faces light up with joy. For them, this platform was more than just a fun event - it was an opportunity to break free from their inhibitions and showcase their personalities. The Rangoli competition that followed was a huge success, and we were thrilled to see our event featured in the local newspaper. This experience reminded me of the power of inclusive events and activities in boosting confidence and self-esteem, especially among marginalized communities. A Setswana proverb easily mentions “Tsela e botsiwa go ba ba e tsamaileng”. This translates to mean “if you want to know about a path or journey, ask the ones whole walked on it before”. Therefore, there’s nothing that one Mulugeta Haileeyesus does not know about the Ethiopia market and its colourful landscape. This is arguably one of the tough / tricky space to operate in, however he puts in the work and silently get things done. He commands a firm grip of the market, has street creed, knows the people well, and his way around Ethiopia. I’ve known Mulu for a number of years now, and each engagement we have is rich with authenticity, sincerity and honesty. He is decisive in his mind, and does not beat around the bush as he also commands respect with everyone he deals with. He is relied upon and simply get things done. He push hard to close tasks in such a tricky market, and he does it well. I’ve seen Mulu in full scale operations and I can simply say he’s a tough taskmaster, but operates with a smile. Thank you Mulu for all the work you do in such a tough space. Thank you for bringing your A-Game and doing your best.
