Bet you didn't know that captaining a pickleball team is like running logistics. Our new league here requires captains to coordinate 9 matches against an opposing team such that each player plays exactly 3 matches (and not with the same partners). Teams must have 2 women and 2 men and 6 total players. We have 3 courts to use and technically 1.5 hours to play. The first four matches are dictated as a women's doubles, a men's doubles and 2 mixed doubles. The rest are open. Go! It's been a challenge to figure out the timing, let alone the matchups. But, because we love the game, we're working through it. (Good thing we have our teambuilding rotations down to a science!! Everyone mixes in with everyone else for learning, drilling, and "competition".) Companies are ditching golf for #pickleball to get deals done, according to Bloomberg. For me, it was just loads of fun. I don't get golf but I totally get pickleball. Here's why I'm lovin' it: 1. Easy to learn: No expensive lessons needed. 2. Quick matches: Perfect for busy schedules. 3. Casual vibes: Shorts and sneakers > polos and slacks. Stop losing pickleball matches because of bad teamwork. Here’s a simple 3-step process to overcome conflict and win more matches: 1. Take a 60-second timeout and remind yourself that you and your partner have a shared goal: winning. They’re not the enemy—solve the problem together. 2. Use “I” statements to address the issue without escalating tension. For example, say, “I’ll take the middle next time. My bad.” 3. Identify what’s important right now and the one action your team can take to regain momentum.
