Lawyers – Engagement in an interview is critical! If invited to an interview, it means the law firm already believes you have some relevant technical experience. Partners will still ask technical questions, but this just gives you a chance to discuss your experience in more detail and impress them further with your relevant knowledge. BUT…. A big part of the interview outcome will be based on your behaviour and your interaction throughout the meeting. Be curious, enthusiastic, personable, charismatic, and most of all AUTHENTIC. This will show the interviewers the very best version of you both professionally and personally. I’ve never known a candidate being turned down because they were too interested in a law firm.

The roles are out there, but expectations are higher than ever, which means interviews are a BIG deal. It’s not just about making a good impression—you need to hit it out of the park. When you're juggling multiple interview processes with different firms, this becomes even more challenging. For each interview, you MUST: → Prepare according to the interview style of each partner or team. → Be ready for technical questions. → Show genuine enthusiasm for joining that specific firm (especially if relocation is involved). → Make a positive impression on everyone you meet, from partners to juniors, HR, and even those you encounter in passing. → Bring your A-game at every stage of the process. This is a busy time of year for interviewing here at TN Recruits Law. Here are three top interview tips: 1. Research the Company Thoroughly Before any interview, I always make sure I’m well informed about the company. I don’t just stick to the basics on their website—I explore their values, mission, recent projects, and current industry trends. This allows me to tailor my answers to align with their goals and company culture. It also helps me ask thoughtful questions at the end, demonstrating genuine interest in the role. 2. Prepare and Practise Key Stories I like to prepare a few key examples that highlight my skills and achievements. Using the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result), I structure my responses so I can clearly explain how I’ve tackled challenges and the outcomes I’ve achieved. Practising these stories beforehand ensures I sound natural and confident during the interview. 3. Focus on Professionalism and Confidence I make sure to maintain a professional approach from the moment I arrive. This includes being punctual, dressing appropriately, and using positive body language. Confidence is essential, so I aim to speak clearly, maintain good eye contact, and engage actively in the conversation. At the same time, I’m careful to strike the right balance between confidence and humility, showing respect for both the interviewer and the interview process. Need support finding a job please feel free to reach out today and find out more about the roles and firms we work with. Emma 01892 571105 #legalrecruitment #jobsinkent #tnrecruitslaw

Interviewing with a Law Firm soon? ?? ?? I have done interview prep with 3 different candidates this week, all of whom are interviewing for different roles and firms, however, the preparation for each interview generally remains the same, here are my 3 top tips! 1. Research the firm thoroughly ?? Know when the firm was founded, where it operates, and its reputation in the legal industry. Highlighting your knowledge of the firm shows you're genuinely interested in joining their team. Culture and Values: Research the firm’s work environment, diversity initiatives, and community involvement. Understanding the firm’s values will help you frame your answers in a way that reflects how you align with their culture. If you are working with a recruiter, they should have been able to provide all of this information as well as you doing your own research. 2. Be ready to discuss your CV ?? Your CV will be a key point of discussion. Be ready to explain everything on it in detail, from your educational background to any temp roles, previous jobs, and skills you’ve acquired. Highlight experiences that are directly relevant to the firm’s needs. 3. Ask your own questions ?? Throughout the interview, you’ll be given the chance to ask questions. This is a critical part of the interview process because it shows your interest and engagement. Make a list of what you wish to ask, such as company culture, progression examples, and opportunities available within the department you are joining. Rather than making them generic be specific about how the answers could directly impact your potential journey with the firm. Preparing for an interview with your chosen law firm requires a combination of legal knowledge, self-awareness, and an understanding of the firm’s culture and values. By doing thorough research, practicing your responses, and demonstrating your passion for the law, you’ll be well on your way to making a strong impression. Don’t be fooled when your interviewer turns the tables, usually near the end of the interview, with an innocent “do you have any questions for me?” Your questions, or lack thereof, will be used to analyze at least three things: 1. Did you research the law firm? 2. Did you listen effectively in the interview? 3. Do you want this role? We’ve got three ways to stand out and seal the deal while interviewing your interviewer: https://loom.ly/8WC-ZJE
