If you are interested in consumer resistance, consumer responsibilization, anti-capitalist consumers, or consumer community, check out Hunter Jones's and my latest publication in the Journal of Business Ethics on Street Fight Radio, a leftwing, populist, grassroots political comedy radio show and podcast with a strong, anti-neoliberal consumer community. Our netnographic and ethnographic study uses Foucault's counter-conduct concept to explore how consumers push back against consumer financial responsibilization and instead responsibilize institutional actors, businesses, and policy makers to address systemic financial precarity. Big thanks to our anonymous reviewers and our editor, Michal Carrington, for their support and very helpful feedback. Please plan to join me on Monday, November 4th at 12pm / noon Eastern time for the monthly FREE webinar of the Media Education Lab’s MediaEd Club. I’ll be co-facilitating this month with Scott Moss, and our topic is, “Renée DiResta and “Invisible Rulers: The People Who Turn Lies into Reality.” This book is one of the best I’ve ever read about how the Internet continues to transform our news cycle, information landscape, politics, culture, and more. This is going to be a great discussion you won’t want to miss, and will be particularly timely with the US elections taking place the next day. Register FREE on: https://lnkd.in/eCc6c5QY This webinar is open to ANY adult, you don’t have to be a current educator / teacher or media literacy academic to join us. The full webinar description is: Are you curious about the mechanisms behind misinformation and the influence of shadowy actors shaping our understanding of truth? Join us for a compelling virtual discussion on Renée DiResta’s new book, Invisible Rulers: The People Who Turn Lies into Reality. DiResta, a leading researcher on misinformation and manipulation in digital spaces, unpacks the invisible networks shaping public perception. In this session, we will dive into her insights and examine how false narratives take hold in the digital age. Don’t miss this opportunity to explore the book’s key themes on Monday, November 4th. #MediaLit #MediaLiteracy #ReneeDiResta #politics #LikeWar #polarization #ConCW #conspiracy #ConspiracyTheory

I am excited to share that I have presented my study on "The Role of Social Media in Shaping Gen Z's Awareness in Understanding Social Issues" at the International Conference on Artificial Intelligence and Networking (ICAIN-2024), published by Springer. In this research, I explored how social media platforms influence Generation Z’s awareness and engagement with important social issues, including climate change, mental health, and social justice. The study sheds light on the power of digital spaces in fostering informed activism and shaping perceptions in today’s tech-driven world.

I'm absolutely thrilled to announce that we're now partnering with Airtm to expand our data collection coverage to dozens of new countries in the Global South. I do not believe in unpaid research: people have to be compensated for their time, otherwise the sampling becomes biased and unethical. Paying people internationally has been one of the roadblocks for making global research possible. That is why we at Besample spend so much time finding and partnering with local payment systems and setting up reliable payout flows in our countries of presence. Now that we work with Airtm, we finally have a perfect tool to manage cross-border payments, automate mass payouts, and offer financial flexibility to our multi-national network of data providers. Together, we're on a mission to make behavioral research truly diverse and globally representative. Rubén Galindo Steckel thank you for what you and your team are building ??
How do we get a more representative understanding of human behavior???? We've partnered with Besample to transform research payments in the Global South and create a more inclusive and diverse landscape in behavioral science!??? This collaboration provides fast, flexible payments to global research participants, giving them the freedom to access their earnings anytime and in any way they choose—ensuring high-quality, diverse data from around the world. Together, we’re unlocking a more representative view of human behavior! Read all about it here: https://lnkd.in/en5JGz_Z

'How can we implement meaningful solutions when public trust in science and policy is continuously threatened by a flood of #misinformation'? -Pallavi Sethi It’s no news by now that I’m becoming a big misinformation nerd, especially when it intersects with public policy. It’s such a fascinating (and frankly frustrating) topic. My boss recently shared this great article by Pallavi Sethi and I can’t overemphasize how spot-on it was. One that really stood out is the cycle of poor policy and misinformation. Like Pallavi rightly discussed in her article, #Misinformation can significantly weaken public policies and erode trust in #democratic systems. On the flip side, ineffective or poorly thought-out policies often create opportunities for misinformation to take root and spread. When #policies are disconnected from solid evidence or fail to address the realities and concerns of the #public, they leave space for false or misleading narratives to fill the gaps. #Policymakers need to base decisions on solid evidence and communicate those decisions transparently and effectively. For me, this boils down to one big question: how do we close the gap between evidence, policy, and public trust? Maybe the solution lies in better #engagement with #communities—building trust by making #science and policy more accessible and relevant. It’s a challenge, but one worth taking on.
