???? Since last December, FuturePlus has been working with the Ridne Food Consortium to measure, monitor, and report on its sustainability performance. Established in March 2022, during the full-scale Russian invasion, the Ridne Food Consortium is a distinctive ecosystem, uniting small—and medium-sized Ukrainian farmers and food factories in a unique alliance. The consortium's mission to safeguard Ukraine's food security and its population is fortified by its collaboration with a global network of humanitarian organisations and funds. Mike has been speaking at the consortium’s annual conference in Kyiv this week, where its first ever Impact Report was published. ?? Highlights from the impact report include: ?? Over 2 million food parcels delivered ?? 50% increase in parcels per month over the last year ???? 1,500,000 UAH invested into social projects ?? 15% of employees are internally displaced people ?? “We are extremely happy to be in a program partnership with FuturePlus. We needed to have a program partner as sustainability practices are a very new thing for Ukraine and our companies. By our example we want to show a new approach for production. We feel constant support and guidance from the FuturePlus team, and the platform helps us to understand what we need to modernise, as well as create a clear roadmap of actions.” - Serhii Kovalchuk, Deputy Director, RIDNE Food Consortium ?? “RIDNE Food Consortium is a shining example of how businesses can prioritise resilience and sustainability, regardless of the circumstances. We started our strategic plan for 2025 – 2029 and we are reflecting on our past. What a progress!! From 4 we are now 44 networks. Our members work in 50 of the 55 African countries. We are felt increasingly at the grassroot level. Alliance for Food Sovereignty in Africa (AFSA) is now a voice for #FoodSovereignty and #Agroecology in Africa. As much as we fought with policies and practices of the Green Revolution, we have brought solutions too. With our African Agroecological Entrepreneurship, Healthy Soil and Healthy Food, Climate advocacy, #MyFoodIsAfrican campaign, Farmers Managed Seed System and so on, we could demonstrate that we are for the solutions in addition to fighting the appropriation of our life by few companies and actors. With continuous reflections, robust leadership, active working groups, principled engagement, using opportunities for change, etc we have managed to achieve more. This will continue much more vigorously in the coming months.

Today, I had the incredible opportunity to sit down with #GeraldHalter, the First Counsellor and Head of Corporation at the #EuropeanUnion Delegation in Sierra Leone. Our discussion centred around the vital contributions of the #EU to the Feed Salone Strategy, particularly focusing on the operationalization of Pillar Three (3) of the Government of Sierra Leone flagship program #FeedSalone Gerald shared insights on how the #EU is actively supporting Sierra Leone's efforts to enhance food systems, highlighting the collaborative initiatives that aim to create sustainable pathways for food security. We explored how Sierra Leone's experience can serve as a model for other nations striving to implement their own food systems pathways, especially through the Sustainable Agro-food Systems Intelligence #SASI and the broader UN Food Systems Summit (UNFSS) goals. It’s inspiring to see how international cooperation and local knowledge can work hand-in-hand to transform food systems and improve livelihoods. Together, we are paving the way for a more secure and sustainable future. #FeedSalone #FAO4Betters #EUSupport #FoodSystems #SASI #UNFSS #SustainablePartnership

?? Excited to be in Kigali this week to meet the movers and shakers who are reimagining and reshaping Africa’s food systems during the Africa Food Systems Forum! ?? ?? As the African Union is preparing its new Agenda to accelerate implementation of the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme in 2025-2035, the theme of the AFSF "Innovate, Accelerate, and Scale: Delivering Food Systems Transformation in a Digital and Climate Change Era," could not be more relevant. ?????? Across Africa, 50 to 85% of farm work continues to be through human power using machetes, hoes and spades. To provide food and nutrition security, it is critical that innovations and scalable technologies are embraced in a way that meets the demands of Africa’s growing population while adhering to inclusiveness and sustainability principles ?????? ?? As mentioned by Godfrey Bahiigwa on behalf of AUC Commissioner Josefa Sacko “we must innovate through increased investments in agricultural research and development. We must accelerate the rate of development and adoption of appropriate technologies and innovations. We must do so at a scale that will match the needs of the continent: food and nutrition security, jobs for youth and women, and wealth creation while protecting the environment. In short, we need to build sustainable and resilient agrifood systems for a healthy and prosperous Africa.” ? ? ?? Keep watching this space for updates as innovators, policymakers, and thought leaders from across the globe are joining forces to move agrifood systems transformation across the continent and beyond! #AfricaFoodSystems #AgricultureInnovation #SustainableFarming #TransformingAgriculture #SustainableAgriculture #Innovation #FutureOfFood #AFSF2024
