Ensuring Every Girl's Right: RET's Initiative on International Menstrual Hygiene Day RET, in partnership with World Vision provided dignity kits to 834 vulnerable girls in Rugombo's 32 basic schools as part of our "Komezawige" project in Burundi. On International Menstrual Hygiene Day, May 28, 2024, we launched this initiative with 130 girls from 5 schools. Since 2023, RET has set up child protection committees in all 17 localities of Rugombo. Our goal is to ensure every child gets an education. Let's remember, many girls lack menstrual hygiene info, and some miss school due to it. Let's empower our girls! The statistics are clear—Mirpur Khas has the highest percentage of child labor in Sindh at 22.3%, surpassing other divisions significantly. As young individuals and advocates for positive change, we must raise our voices for children’s rights, especially for those from underprivileged and marginalized communities. One of the primary root causes is lack of awareness. We need to take the first step by helping these communities understand the long-term consequences of keeping children out of school. Short-term gains from child labor come at the cost of children’s futures, trapping them in cycles of poverty and limiting their potential. Let’s work together to spread awareness, address these underlying issues, and advocate for policies that protect the rights of vulnerable children. #ChildRights #EndChildLabor #YouthForChange #MirpurKhas #EducationForAll National Commission on the Rights of Child Pakistan UNICEF Pakistan UNDP Pakistan

The #UN Committee on the Rights of the Child released its concluding observations on #SouthAfrica's latest #ChildRights report last week. While welcoming progress made in advancing child rights, particularly on the passing of institutional and policy measures, the findings also highlight critical areas that need urgent follow up. ? protect child-friendly budgets ? improve access to parenting support programmes ? implement the School Safety Framework ? allocate resources to community-based services for vulnerable children ? ensure child participation in policy development & implementation Positioning children at the center of the national interest must be an overriding priority to nurture the country's greatest resource - its children - and to strive towards achieving the #SustainableDevelopmentGoals. As someone passionate about ethical, community-driven sustainable development, I was impressed by CLARISSA's commitment to centering children's voices and experiences. I attended a fascinating event showcasing the groundbreaking work of the #CLARISSA project, tackling child labor in Bangladesh and Nepal through innovative participatory approaches.? ? Takeaways: ? The project uses participatory action research to empower children as agents of change in addressing complex drivers of child labor. ? Ethical considerations are paramount, with careful navigation of compensation for child participants. ? ?Voluntary participation builds genuine community ownership and sustainability. ? "Cash plus" interventions combine unconditional cash transfers with family case work and community mobilisation. ? Systemic action research enables deep participation and collective problem-solving to shift underlying dynamics. ? It was inspiring to see how CLARISSA, led by the Institute of Development Studies (IDS), is reimagining child protection programming. The collaborative efforts of partners like Terre des hommes, ChildHope, and local organizations such as Voice of Children (Nepal) and Dhaka Ahsania Mission (Bangladesh) are truly commendable. Special thanks to #DannyBurns, Professorial Research Fellow at IDS and Director of CLARISSA, for his insightful presentation on participatory research methodologies.? #EthicalDevelopment #ChildProtection #ParticipatoryResearch #CommunityDrivenDevelopment #Instituteofdevelopmentstudies.

????????Last week in Luweero, central Uganda, the Luweero VAC Cluster, supported by the Prevention of Violence against Children and Young People (PVAC) program, and the Luweero AGPP Cluster, under the Adolescent Girls Power Program (AGPP) and other key district stakeholders met with officials from the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development (MGLSD). ????????The objective of the meeting was for the MGLSD to train and empower participants with knowledge and skills in parenting. MGLSD took CRVPF cluster partners and other attendees through documents they had developed alongside development partners, including the National Parenting Guidelines, the National Parenting Standards, the National Parenting Manual, and key family care practices. Through this exercise, the ministry aimed to improve participants' knowledge on the role of parenting in child protection and ending gender-based violence, increase their knowledge and skills in early childhood and parenting and develop an action plan for scaling down work in the district. ????????The CRVPF cluster partners will be able to train officials and other key individuals in their catchment areas with the new knowledge and skills they have acquired. This will reduce the likelihood of violence against children and young people in households and increase the dissemination of this critical information. ? #crvpf #mglsd #parenting
