Q - When you walk into a space and it feels good, is that tied to something else? - Jeff? A - It's very much the science in its infancy, but definitely there is something there. You walk in and you're like, huh I can be at home here. We're working on the science behind that - Michelle Ossmann, PhD, MSN There is this wonderful notion called 'ambient belonging,' the notion that the more neutral environment communicated 'There are others like me here'.?- Michelle Ossmann When we think about pattern and color, which is very cultural, when we think about affordances, like whether or not there's a chair that can hold me or one I can get up from easily or a height that works for me, is it communicating 'This is made for me'?- Michelle Ossmann --------------------- Ryan Anderson introduced me to the concept of 'Inclusive Design' years about, thoughtfully considering and designing for all the variables the users might bring to the space. 'Ambient Belonging' where the absence of 'don't belong' creates a feeling of 'do belong' without an overt call out. Design matters, and good design increases the probability that people can get closer to the best output of their careers. The positives are reinforced (to support productivity) and the negatives (distractions and discomfort) removed to keep the productivity on track. Audacious goals are scary. I know from experience. However, I've learned that when a big and innovative idea comes to mind, especially if it's something you have never done before but you have a feeling it's going to be fantastic...all you need to do to overcome that initial fear is to START by taking that first logical step. For me, it's been putting pen to paper to flesh out the initial idea, and recruiting people in my inner circle to serve as sounding boards and collaborators to help take that first step with me. After going through this exercise so many times throughout the years, I'm able to dispel the jitters and step into any project with confidence from the get-go. This brings me to this week's ((Sunday Soundbites)) featuring the very wise Carole Burton. ((Sunday Soundbites)) a weekly burst of insight from the remarkable minds featured on our?“I have SOMETHING to say!” Podcast. Each Sunday,?URBANDER’s Jr. Graphic Designer?Alana King?curates thought-provoking soundbites from our conversations with a diverse network of subject matter experts and leaders. With so many wonderful discussions and profound moments shared, we are excited to kick-start your week with a captivating quote that will feature the leader’s mindset and how they “show up” as human beings. #URBANDER?#Mindset?#SundaySoundbites?#GraphicDesign?#Insights?#takeaways?#storytelling?#artist?#creativity?#humanity

I was asked in a podcast interview--- “what’s your jam?” MY JAM?! I’ll tell you- and let’s use a piece of my art, ’59 UNWIND to unpack it. In essence--Here goes: You must launch---while you learn. You must play—while you practice. YOU MUST build your plane---while you fly it. “Putting in the work”—there’s no way around it. You must act. And apply in real time. Your book smart and have it memorized? Happy for you. Are you injecting it into your professional world though?... ’59 UNWIND is absolutely WIDE-OPEN and coming out of the bleachers and into the game. Smashing and crashing—knocking over everyone’s cracker jacks in the process….and tipping over the “armchair quarterbacks” on the way down---- LOVE THAT. I bring this energy to every project. And to be honest, some don’t know what to do with this energy. ~~just being real…BUT when you love what you do---it pours out of you. “STATIS QUO?!” no thank you. -Energy brings results. -Hitting the field ready to play brings results. “You knocked over my cracker jacks!” Aka…let me sit here and think about it------ forever. Sorry about that--- but we’ve got a game to play! Are you ready for this level of REAL-LIVE-ACTION? I’m Scott---from Studio 669 I create visuals that knock over cracker jacks on the daily. ? Want to discuss getting YOUR brand next level? DM me--- It’s a (FREE) no obligation conversation. ? #designwork #getreal #artwork

"The concept of a design podcast might sound like a contradiction in terms; but in fact, there's a lot one can learn and enjoy about the visual arts via spoken word — particularly from those in the creative industry," the studio adds. "When we set out to create this series, we wanted to uncover unique paths and unravel exclusive behind-the-scenes perspectives of key people in the design world to discover their transformative journeys, discover lessons and challenges, as well as understand the triumphs that have defined their experiences," says co-founder and creative director at DashDigital Studio Rogan Jansen.
