I had a fantastic time at the Aged & Community Care Providers Association QLD State Conference yesterday. I presented on “Innovation at Inclusee”, and like to thank anyone who joined me. I am extremely proud on how far we have come as a organisation over the last 5 years, and it’s all because of innovation. Through innovation you can improve your culture, your systems, your processes, your policies, your services, your product’s and your impact. Even through all of the innovation we have achieved at Inclusee , the vision focus this year is to innovate to uncomplicate. My biggest advice with innovation? ?? don’t be scared to give things a try. ?? be prepared to make mistakes, but learn from them. ?? have fun with it. ?? don’t just think technology, there are a range of different types of innovation, technology is only one of them. ?? it doesn’t have to be big, even small changes can have huge positive impact. ?? start now, innovation is not a nice to have, but a must have to remain sustainable. ?? never stop, the minute you stop your competitors will overtake you. ?? get your team involved. ?? ensure you have a continuous feedback loop. Ensuring a smooth continuity between innovation production and innovation adoption. ? ? I recently had a conversation with a CEO from a major care institution to understand how he embraces innovation. Indeed, there is a discrepancy between what companies develop and what we see being implemented. ? He came up with the interesting distinction between “innovation production” and “innovation adoption”. Startups are good at producing innovation based on academic science, but unfortunately often fail at integrating innovation. Why ? 1. As engineers, founders intensely focus on feasibility milestones and barely step out of their labs.? 2. Testing the?desirability of?their technology is out of their comfort zone, since addressing the pain-gain fit or problem-solution fit?requires the proximity?with potential users.? 3. Furthermore, usability is mostly neglected, since it requires a deep understanding of the care practices often crystalized around the patient-nurse binome, as well as a clear view of the?patient environments?which may vary upon his/her journey. So, as a facilitator, what could I do to improve this? ? Basically, the challenge of entrepreneurship is to turn an idea into reality. At Biop?le Lausanne, we do not only propose premium labs and offices to develop your concept. Through the various innovation programs I run, we also: ? 1. Nurture tight connections with hospitals and clinics to give entrepreneurs the opportunity to understand the reality of the environment in which they want to deploy their innovation. 2. Collaborate, more specifically, with H4, the Hands-On Human Health Hub. ? Mastering user-centric innovation methodologies, and with its unique network of experts/users, infrastructures, and bibliographical resources, H4 contributes to ensuring the adequation between idea and the field. Rooted in a nursing school, in our country where there are 4 times as many nurses as medical doctors, this partnership with H4 ensures that the bridge between innovative ideas and practical application in the field remains strong and relevant. Adjacent Innovation. Had never heard this term before, so I didn't have words for what Terri Hinkley, EdD, MBA, BScN, RN, CAE has sparked at National Association of School Nurses. It's not the scary/risky/burn it down innovation (because that would be crazy coming from someone with all those credentials, we don't want people trained as nurses being risky). Or the slow, we needed to fix this anyway innovation. (because we're going to do that) It's "just right" innovation. I love that most of the team is so excited by change and innovation. It can be scary. Trying to get a few remaining on board. Communication, coaching, empowerment, and more communication are key. Not sure my brain should be linking Goldilocks metaphor to my boss though. https://lnkd.in/eGwuuNjB

Innovation is a two-sided equation, it is both the act of invention and the act of adoption. Our pursuit of innovation has often fixated on the potential for invention—the ability to generate new and novel ideas or products. But without adoption, innovation and its impact remain limited. So when we seek to understand 'early adopters', it’s important to recognise that these individuals may not be in the country where the invention occurred. In today's highly connected world, the early adopters of an invention could exist anywhere. In fact, the countries undergoing rapid economic and social change are often where we find the people who are the most open and adaptive to new ideas. So when we're trying to understand how the adoption of a new invention will unfold, it's important we remember to look beyond our immediate surroundings and find the people who are truly ready to try out and put our innovation through its paces.
