Congratulations to portfolio company AuthMind on the fantastic recognition. AuthMind brings significant innovation to what we see as a large new category: Identity Protection.
Infrastructure vs. protection:
* Over the years in cyber, we've seen that there's a clear distinction between companies that build out an edge of the enterprise as an infrastructure company and companies that protect that edge. For example, Cisco built the network edge but companies like Palo Alto were needed to truly protect network edge.
* Infrastructure and protection companies are fundamentally different in their architecture and focus. Infrastructure companies tend to be policy driven and then by their nature selective in applying policies to each of the things they connect to. Protection companies have to be driven by what the threat actors can do (risk / pre-breach) or are doing (threat / post breach). And instead of being selective have to be holistic in seeing everything out of the box day one. That's because the only way to maximize the chances of early prevention and detection is to see everything. By seeing everything out of the box, you have the best chances of identifying signal in the data that highlights risks and threats.
Identity is a new enterprise edge:
* Cloud and SaaS has made identity fragmented and thus a large and brittle new enterprise edge. It's not just where identity is stored that fragmented with cloud and SaaS but the ownership and management of identity has fragmented as well. As a result of being large, brittle and fragmented, it has now become one of the most attacked edges of the enterprise. The foundational role of identity also makes it critical to some of biggest issues keeping CISOs up at night: lateral movement that can expand the blast radius and unauthorized egress connections which ultimately weaponizes malicious kill chains.
* Similar to Cisco's role in building the network enterprise edge, companies in the IAM, IGA and PAM spaces are building the identity edge. But in the same way we needed a company with a fundamentally different architecture and focus to protect the network edge like Palo Alto Networks, we need a company with a very different focus and architecture to truly protect the identity edge.
. . .And that's where AuthMind comes in.
Its holistic in observing every on-prem, cloud, SaaS, human, non-human, workforce and customer identity out of the box. Based on that foundation of holistic observability, they maximize the benefits to the #CISO across their risk and threat teams. But they also support a third pillar of benefit around compliance and validation. Allowing for continuous validation of the state of their identity infrastructure to ensure what's expected is aligned with reality.
