Signage highlighting that an EV charger is at a site benefits both EV and non-EV drivers. EV drivers know they can stop to charge and non-EV drivers can see the growth in the charging infrastructure to grow confidence that public charging is not an issue.

? Another #EV charging milestone passed - 60,000 public chargers across the UK! ? These complement the 700,000 or so home chargers and an unknown (maybe 100,000?) workplace chargers available to #EV drivers? Whilst the 50,000th charger installed just a few month ago was a powerful 150kW Motor Fuel Group ultra rapid charger, with ability to add around 100 miles in 15 mins of charging, the 60,000th charger is a humble 5kW char.gy on-street lamp post charger which will take several hours to add the same amount but serves such an important purpose. Chargers come in many different styles and different power ratings and serve different charging needs: while you sleep ?? - shop ?? - caffeinate ?- eat ?? - comfort stop ?? - visit ?? - work ???? work out ??♂? or just take time out - I could go on! Each and every one has a part to play in the great transition to electric cars. Whilst we at Zapmap love data, especially #EV charging data, and we have forecasted that we will have 100,000 chargers by Summer 2025 - whether this comes to pass at this exact date is not important, what is important is that the infrastructure continues to grow, and is serving the different needs of EV drivers right across the country. It's World EV Day and what better time to reflect on whether you should be adding an EV point to your property? As of the end of June 2024, there are more than 1,145,000 fully electric cars on UK roads, according to electric vehicle and charging point platform, Zapmap– and that number continues to rise. Research also suggests that 54% of drivers are considering having a charge-point installed, showing a need to support EV drivers, and the National Association of Property Buyers also notes that adding an EV charging point to your home could boost its value by up to ￡5,000! ** DID YOU KNOW ** There are currently 2 grants you can get to offer financial support towards installing charge-points for electric vehicles at a property you own. A recent pub conversation turned to EV cars, with a mate insisting that they'd never make the switch due to 'range anxiety' and the fear of coming to an abrupt halt in the middle of the M40. Given we work with EV clients, I tried to reassure them about the improvements in battery technology and availability of EV charging points. Perhaps it was the Guinness, but they were having none of it! It’s not just them, though.?The Times?recently pointed out how outdated UK planning laws mean only a fraction of chargers are actually signposted sufficiently, making it?feel?like there are fewer chargers than there really are. In fact, according to Zapmap in 2024 the number of EV chargers passed the 73,000 mark, and the pace of installs increased 38% year-on-year. This is where?Nudge Theory?comes in. Simple, visible EV charging signs on motorways and major roads could subtly change perceptions, showing people that the infrastructure is there when they need it. It’s a low-cost fix that could reduce range anxiety and help more drivers feel confident about making the switch to electric. https://lnkd.in/gDjYbYGy “We have decided to double our current charging infrastructure in North America over the next four years to help meet the need for the rapid growth expected of electric vehicles by virtually all the auto manufacturers, and to help make EV adoption more accessible and attractive than ever,” said Giovanni Palazzo, president and chief executive officer at Electrify America, at the time. “We are making this commitment to support the plans by major automakers and the U.S. and Canadian governments to help the transformation to an electric mobility transportation system.” A few years ago, Electrify America announced a “Boost Plan” that aims to more than double the number of stations and chargers by the end of 2025. Serious hardware problems got in the way of that plan, forcing the company to slow down. ?? Big rise in public EV charging by business drivers reported by Allstar ?? The use of public EV charging facilities by UK businesses has soared in a year, according to data from Allstar. The company has published its second AllCosts report, based on data from its customers’ charging sessions between January and March this year. It revealed public EV charger use was up by 264% compared with March 2023. In addition, the number of business drivers using home charging rose by 113%. Allstar Chargepass UK MD Ashley Tate said: “The AllCosts report paints an interesting picture of the needs and wants of business drivers across the UK."
