?? Falling used car values show return to seasonal trends, Cap HPI says ?? The average value of used cars at the three-year/60,000 mile point has fallen by 1.5% during April, according to cap hpi. The data firm said this fall followed an overall rise in values of 0.5% over the first quarter of the year and reflected a gentle softening in demand and an increase in supply. Cap HPI director of valuations Derren Martin said: “The market feels healthy, but a number of retailers have expressed that demand is slightly below where they had hoped and budgeted for, after a robust first quarter." EV values have recorded the biggest monthly fall since June 2023, although there were increases for the Mini Cooper Electric and Cupra Born. The UK new car market seems to be "sluggish' in 2024, yet new car registration figures for March showed a 10.4% rise. So volume of sales is on the rise however much of this is driven by fleet sales which has risen 26%. Private car sales has dropped 7%. OEM's seem to have clocked onto this trend and are dropping their prices accordingly. Should fleet sales drop as well then we may see a drop in registrations and even more slow down. Could be a good time to buy a new car but not so good if you sell them.

It looks like there is increasing investment from car manufacturers in tiny urban EVs. Following the Citroen Ami, here’s Renault’s replacement for the Twizy. Uptake for the original model in the UK was very low – given our climate, it’s lack of a heater or even proper doors were always going to be an issue - but this new version solves those problems. However, it’s not necessarily cheap at around £10,000 and it’ll be interesting to see if this one finds more buyers. https://ow.ly/bnzL50TKA1w #Startlinemotorfinance #motorfinance #dealers #dealership #autoretail #motorindustry #EVs

It wasn’t that long ago that consumers were complaining about extended wait times for new cars… Oh, how the wheel has turned. ? Although this week’s VFACTS data for August suggests new car sales are still solid, there are other stats that show the state of the new car market in a different light. ? Data from my former colleagues at Redbook shows that in August, Australian new car buyers benefited from the highest level of retail offers since the COVID-19 disruption circa March 2020. ? “A good indicator of the new car market supply and demand is the availability of OEM publicly available Special Offers,” Redbook boss Ross Booth told me today. ? “Right now, 37 new car brands have a publicly available Special Offer in the market. That’s two-thirds of the 55 established brands—67%. This is the highest level since COVID-19,” Ross elaborated. ? Booth says the growth in the number of offers has been evident since January 2023 but has recently accelerated. He also noted that this coincides with some significant retail price adjustments — the most recent being Polestar slicing around $5K from the entry-level Polestar 2. ? Other key takeaways include: the dollar value of the offers has been growing — with the move away from finance offers back to drive-away pricing—and that in addition to the brand spread, a record number of individual make/model/variant offers were in the market in August. More than 300! ? Of note is the high level of NEV (new energy vehicle) representation within the total. August saw 33 Special Offers—21 BEV and 11 Hybrid (one of which was PHEV). ? Redbook says there are a total of 62 BEV models on sale Down Under. Simple maths — one-third of BEVs are being discounted at an OEM level… ? #NewCarMarket #AutomotiveTrends #EVRevolution #VFACTS #AutomotiveInsights

A lot has already been said about the new Dacia Spring being the cheapest new #electriccar you can buy in the UK, but how does it perform in the real world? How does it feel on a motorway? How easy is it to park? How many shopping bags can you get in the boot? Is the interior built down to a price? The answer to all of these questions (and some more) can be found during tonight’s Road Test Review on the AutoEV #youtube channel at 7:30pm. And remember folks, the AutoEV Road test review is the review that actual car buyers trust when it comes to choosing their next electric car. #dacia #daciaspring #electricvehicle #electriccar

The new Dacia Spring is like a simple trick of magic that we still can't figure out why it works. But it does. It is based in a very obscure, tiny and crude vehicle build for the so-called emerging markets, in 2015. (That is, markets in need of a very cheap and somewhat resistant vehicle) Well, nine years later, here we are, talking about an electric version of the Renault Kwid, that has already sold more than 150,000 units in the most demanding market in the world: Europe. Crude, slow and much smaller than it looks on pictures, the Dacia Spring is no technological feat. But, and this is at least part of its magic, it gets the job done. It has (barely) four seats, a reasonable trunk and is (by far) the lightest electric vehicle of its type. Charging at home and with beneficial energy prices, one can expect a sensational €1/100 km (perhaps they should have sticked with the name "Quid" after all...). And, like a gift that keeps on giving, it received a significant upgrade, regarding bodywork, infotainment and safety systems. All this whilst keeping the prices. (I told you, it's Dacia's magic trick). It is easy to point its limitations but as a zero emission city car, affordable and practical, it is still waiting for real competition. If you want to know more, do click below. And I would love to read your comments on the Dacia Spring. Mazda Australia is gearing up for a strong 2025, aiming to surpass 100,000 sales with a refreshed lineup, including the new-generation CX-5, updated BT-50 dual-cab, and enhanced CX-60, alongside the recently introduced CX-70 and CX-80 SUVs. The CX-5, Mazda’s best-selling model globally, will debut its third generation with hybrid options, while the BT-50 gets significant updates to bolster its appeal to both retail and fleet customers. Despite competition from newer rivals and the rise of Chinese brands, Mazda’s strong dealer network and consistent strategy have maintained its position as a top-seller. Its CX-3 dominates the light SUV segment, and the MX-5 sports car continues to perform well, reinforcing the brand’s broad appeal and adaptability in a competitive market.
