Surely shipping hydrogen, made from renewable electricity, across the Atlantic, to meet US need for decarbonisation as not as efficient use of this technology as addressing the electricity that we import from South Africa which is largely made from fossil fuels. I understand this decision from an economic point of view but not from an environmental one.

I’m thrilled that the UDEPP Ukrainian-Danish energy partnership program addresses the urgent reporting needs of Ukrainian biomethane producers to UDB, facilitating the first biomethane export transactions to the EU. Key focus areas include: ?? Reporting system to UDB ?? Accreditation system — planned for future projects ?? Reducing methane emissions — exporting renewable gas with high methane emissions only to get taxed for it isn't the best approach ?? ?? Biomethane adaptation in the gas system — a crucial issue for our TSO/DSO ?? Financial support — we need to shift subsidies from fossil gas to renewable sources ?? Gas quality and incentives for network connection — there are many questions from Operators and producers, and we need to learn from international experience. And this is just one of the seven pillars of cooperation! ?? The biomethane journey is truly inspiring. For example, in Denmark, 40% of the gas in the system is biomethane, and in France, there are hundreds of biomethane plants with impressive annual growth. Biomethane is a great opportunity to boost Ukraine’s agricultural potential, significantly transition to renewables, create numerous green jobs in rural areas, invest in STEM, and kickstart a circular economy. The appointment of Danish politician Dan J?rgensen as EU Commissioner for Energy and Housing signals even more growth for biomethane in Europe. The commencement of groundbreaking projects in the Jarjoub regions of the North Coast and Ras Shqair in the Red Sea has attracted foreign direct investments exceeding 31 billion euros! A monumental contract has been signed with a consortium comprising the French company EDF Renewable and the Egyptian-Emirati company Zero Waste. This consortium will invest 2 billion euros in the first phase to produce green hydrogen and green ammonia. The entire project will see a minimum total investment of 7 billion euros across three phases. Remarkably, there is no obligation on the Egyptian state to provide infrastructure or bear any financial burden for this project. In addition, a partnership with the Belgian company "Demi Hyperport Energy NV" has been established for a project in the Jarjoub area. Spanning 6 square kilometers, this factory land will produce green hydrogen and its derivatives and green ammonia. The first phase alone sees an investment of 3 billion euros, with the entire project totaling 24 billion euros for all three phases, fully funded by the company.
