In fact, the company became an equal shareholder in 2023 with a one-third stake in Symbio, a leading hydrogen technology company operating in Europe and the United States. OpelMovano Hydrogen Expanding Fuel Cell Technology in Commercial Vehicles Follow me for more technical insights: https://lnkd.in/evN3jc94 Stellantis is advancing its commitment to hydrogen fuel cell technology in the commercial vehicle sector with the introduction of the Opel Movano Hydrogen. Debuting at the IAA Commercial Vehicles 2024 in Hannover, this new model builds on the existing electric platform of the Movano, replacing the battery in the vehicle floor with four hydrogen tanks capable of storing seven kilograms of hydrogen. The Opel Movano Hydrogen is equipped with a 45 kW fuel cell and a 100 kW electric motor, both housed under the front hood. An 11 kWh buffer battery, which can also be charged externally, is positioned under the passenger seat. This setup offers a significant range of up to 500 kilometers and refueling time of just five minutes, without compromising payload, cargo volume, or performance—improving upon the electric-only version's maximum range of 400 kilometers. Stellantis is expanding its hydrogen fuel cell offerings to include not only medium-sized vans but also larger commercial vehicles. Toyota Motor Corporation (Toyota) and the BMW Group (BMW) signed a landmark agreement this week to enhance their collaboration in the hydrogen sector. The collaboration aims to create synergies in development and procurement to drive down costs. Toyota and BMW are collaborating on a third-generation fuel cell system, which will be integrated into models from both companies, offering customers a diverse range of fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs). As part of this initiative, BMW plans to launch its first mass-produced FCEV in 2028. Toyota's Mirai is a hydrogen fuel-cell electric vehicle currently available in some countries. There's a huge amount of ongoing investment in developing the technology for Hydrogen-powered vehicles, but the truth is that we are still some way from Hydrogen being adopted as a viable option for everyday public motorists. There have been less than 500 Hydrogen-powered vehicles registered in the UK in the last decade, but by 2030 industry insiders estimate there will be 13 million globally. Currently there are only two hydrogen vehicles models on UK roads; the Toyota Mirai released in 2015 (with 2nd generation released in 2021), and the Hyundai Nexo which soon followed.
