We need an all of the above energy policy. The key is to make all energy sources cleaner, safer and cheaper to maintain a high standard of living around the world. Green energy is fine but current technology cannot power a first world economy. Abundant Natural gas and nuclear are the bridge to the future.

Join on Dec 3 to get the latest thinking on how to act on climate at the scale and speed needed.
The MIT Club of Northern California (MITCNC) is hosting a Webinar 'Repowering the World: A Novel Solution for Zero-Emission Nuclear Power Generation' on 3 December 2024, moderated by Ray Rothrock, an American venture capitalist and philanthropist focused on securing energy solutions for the 21st century. Eric Ingersoll, Founding Director and Co-CEO of the nonprofit Terra Praxis, will speak at this webinar and share a strategy and the progress underway to enable 10 TWe of clean energy to be deployed in 10 years, starting in 2030. He will provide a practical approach for repurposing coal plants - as well as other industrial energy infrastructure - cost-effectively, quickly and at scale. A civil nuclear debate about Australia's energy mix? Episode 1 of the Great Debate series – on topics in Australia that need discussion but are reduced to shouting matches from inside closed bubbles. Green shirted Marcus is Mr Renewables and black suited Michael is the pro-nuclear Darth Vader of the episode. Listen to hear if it's possible to discuss radioactive waste, windfarms and Australia’s energy mix without mutual eye-poking and yelling. There’s a lot in here and a lot more that could be said, but it’s a start. (I think Darth has this one........)

How disappointing. The worst of sins when discussing electricity. Not using GW and GWh correctly. My three quick points: 1.?????Australia’s current peak usage 30-40GW correct. (ref A) 2.?????Australia is currently serviced by 30-40% renewables. Incorrect. 22% over the past 12 months. (ref B 12 month view). 3.?????7 Nuclear power plants is 10-15% of our requirement. Incorrect. Annual Energy consumption is approximately 190TWh (ref C). Noting that 64% (121TWh) of this was produced by coal (ref B again). The current plate capacity of NEM coal plants is approx. 22.5 GW that’s means that 64% of Australia’s usage was produced from 22.5 GW generation. This is base load power. Therefore 7 nuclear plants generating 1-1.5GW each (total 7-10.5 GW) has the potential contribute 32% of our power requirements. Unlike what is promised, this is an ideological debate using incorrect or inaccurate science. References in comment. Facts not Politics.
