King County Executive Dow Constantine’s years of service will leave an incomparable mark on our region. His tireless commitment to ambitious, evidence-based policy and his courage to address difficult and complex issues head-on have set the bar for the kind of leadership we need to meet our most pressing challenges. Under his direction, addressing homelessness has been a North Star for the County, and has helped our region approach this problem with collaboration, perseverance, and empathy.? ? We are deeply appreciative of his creation of long-term programs like the groundbreaking Health Through Housing Initiative, robust investments in veterans, seniors, and human services, and a County-wide commitment to creating stability for all—there are critical tools to help organizations like Plymouth make progress. There is still work to do to ensure everyone in our region has a place to call home, but King County is better equipped to meet this need thanks to Executive Constantine’s work. “The space of the Flatbush African Burial Ground is a space that holds trauma. How can we heal trauma in real time?” asks Shanna Sabio, Co-Founder of Growhouse Community Design + Development. Over the course of 18 months, GrowHouse collaborated with design team Creative Urban Alchemy, LLC to activate the Flatbush African Burial Ground and develop a Black history corridor connecting sites of resistance and connection in Central Brooklyn. This is how we advance community wealth. In this video from our Pathways to Equity series, Associate Vice President Soni Gupta and Tanya Hahnel of the East Boston Community Development Corporation discuss the East Boston Neighborhood Trust, which protected the affordability of over 100 housing units in East Boston, and the continuing effort to protect and expand housing affordability in Greater Boston. We need more leaders to do things like this. We tend to think that one department is responsible for one thing. Compartmentalizing everything in hopes that it will create efficiency. There happens to be leaders with ideas that transcend their departments. Keep Bridging the Gap to help communities!

A few months ago, Mayor Mike Duggan highlighted an important milestone in Detroit's revitalization: creating "a city where people of all income levels are able to live in any neighborhood." The West Euclid Gateway project, which we proudly supported, will bring 20 fully renovated affordable housing units to Detroit's Virginia Park neighborhood. Working together with partners at Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC), Michigan State Housing Development Authority, Detroit Housing for the Future Authority, as well as CENTRAL DETROIT CHRISTIAN CDC and 360 DETROIT, we're creating quality homes for families that breathe new life into the community. As Darnell Adams, our VP of Detroit Community Initiatives, shared: "Our mission is to drive inclusive growth and opportunity within Detroit's neighborhoods." This project exemplifies that commitment by providing quality, affordable housing and supporting vital neighborhood nonprofits. Repealing NEW ORDINANCE TO CODE BOOKS ORDINANCE NO. 230401 Amending Chapter 3, Code of Ordinances, by repealing Section 3-431, “Setting Goals for Individual Contracts” and enacting in lieu thereof a new section of like number and subject matter regulating the application of numeric MBE/WBE goals on certain projects leased for development or receiving economic development incentives or tax abatement. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY: 2. Ignoring the letter from The Kcmo Fairness Board Chairman & Fairness Committee regarding Civil Rights violations ? Harrasment of minority contractors ? inadequate reporting from Kcmo CREO department ? No Disparity report for 9 years and more ? 2016 Disparity Report below: Department of I think 1.2 minority [participation] and 2.5 WBE [participation], when there was adequate availability of minority and women contractors to meet the City’s standard kind of goal of 15 [percent] and 7 [percent]. They’re diluting the opportunity for minority and women contractors when it comes through the statutory business development organizations, all of whom have different sets of rules..… There ought to be a uniform code that is incorporated in all the development agreements which people in our community never see.… There’s a disconnect. And I realize they’re trying to change some of that now but the insulting part of it was there was more money spent through statutory agencies last year for contracting activities than there were through City departments.… It’s obviously developer driven. By the time we see it the development agreement has already been executed. Caused lack of capital for Jackson County schools and libraries. Mayor Lucas and Insult to African Americans everywhere?

Isaac Yablo is Senior Advisor for Community Safety for the City of Boston. He moves seamlessly across scales, from city-wide strategy to on-scene response. In his work, we watched how well Isaac sees people, where they are coming from, and the structures that surround them: the not visible things that are driving visible behaviors. Isaac has shown us what it can mean to be seen.
