Burnout is something that creeps up on us and, without better understanding of it, can be something really detrimental to our mental wellbeing. In this episode, I’m joined by Flic Taylor, a subject matter expert in burnout. Not only is Flic a complete bundle of energy, she is a coach, mental health writer and the host of the podcast ‘Everyday Burnout Conversations’. We go deep on Burnout, describing what it actually is, discussing the stigmas around it, how to recognize it and how to address it. I recently listened to this podcast and it just blew me away - definitely the most impactful podcast of the year so far! ?? Steven Bartlett interviews Mo Gawdat about the Burnout Generation and why we are so stressed. It starts off very heavy, they begin talking about the imminent geopolitical future and impact of AI (which is another topic i speak about but lets save this for another day). The good stuff starts at 15:15 when Mo talks about us entering a time of human evolution, and how our well-being must be our top priority now. This episode is an absolute game changer for me! Mo eloquently explains how easy it is to fall into the habit of creating our own stress and how we have become so addicted to it. I don't think we talk about our addiction to stress very often - to keeping up with change, to constantly being on and saying yes to everything that comes our way. FoMo is having an impact on your health and life in a way we fail to see. Steven and Mo bare their intimate thoughts in this podcast and the rawness is moving. ?? “While life is supposed to be lived, we spend most of it planning to live it” - For me, this episode put a lot of things into perspective and has really made me reassess my priorities so I can focus on what really matters. Are we really living? We wake up, take care of any responsibilities, drag ourselves to work, make it through the day, get home, carry out more responsibilities and sleep and then do it all over again…how much of this is autopilot? If you have kids (or pets) like me - taking care of them between it all and showing up as best you can for them while leaving little time for yourself. It’s no wonder we’re stressed and burning out so fast. Something that really stood out for me in this episode was being able to differentiate stressors of daily life and life in general what you can and can’t control. We can’t eliminate stress (did you know small amounts of stress can actually be good for you?), but for both our physical and mental health, we need the tools to manage and mitigate how much stress we are taking on. ?? Mo uses trauma as a great example. You can’t control what happens to you that causes trauma (that’s an external stressor), but you CAN have more control over your internal stressors than you think. The biggest internal stressors I hear about from my career, business and ADHD coaching clients are negative self-talk, task prioritisation, people pleasing, and poor boundaries. We are losing RESILIENCE and no one is talking about it The biggest challenge to wellbeing and growth is that we are losing resilience Recently we had World Mental Health Day And, I saw many posts on the importance of sharing your mental health challenges which is great, but I did not see a single post about resilience I believe that is an equally important issue. We are losing resilience Why is it important? It is important because as an individual or an organisation If we want to grow without compromising wellbeing we need to work on building resilience and mental toughness Building resilience requires 4 things ??
