Here at Smart Works Greater Manchester we’re thrilled that we’ve been able to keep hold of the fantastic Harley Crolla as our Outreach Lead for Bury and now leading the Brighter Futures campaign targeting 16-19 years old looking for a job. Our 23/24 survey confirms that clients apply for an average of 30 jobs before they get an interview and come to us. ? Can you imagine the stress of applying for 30 jobs before getting to the first hurdle ? ? Can you pause to think about spending on average 30 hours a week applying for jobs and not even getting feedback about why you haven’t got an interview ? ? Can you identify with the resulting blow to confidence and self esteem ? ? Can you then imagine how transformational the Smart Works Charity service therefore is when 67% of clients go on to get a job within a month of their first appointment with us ? Finding the balance between (i) thoroughness & potential employees' commitment, and (ii) discouraging the talent you wish to attract through arduous hiring practices is crucial. ?? Recently, I encountered a charity's 'entry-level' Ops Manager role with a 5-stage, 8-week application journey. ?? By the time applicants reach the final stage the process would have demanded 8 hours of time invested. ??♂? Is this excessive? It's with a heavy heart that I share the news that I will be moving on from Bodhi. I have loved my time here with a great team around me. We've made big strides to creating a business that puts people at the centre of everything they do. I am confident that the business will go from strength to strength under the leadership of Zane and John. I'll still be in the business for the next month, continuing to support and for those wondering, this is all very amicable, I have great respect for everyone here. Some of the projects I have loved working on during this time, which will have a big impact for the business as they move forward have been - Full re-brand, exploring the brand identity (cannot wait to share this next week) - Took Bodhi through the full B Corp certification process - Created more brand visibility across social media platforms - Employee engagement scores of over 90% Now I am on the look out for new opportunities. I like to work with businesses who are values led, have a clear purpose and make decisions with people at the centre of everything they do. I love to lead and inspire others, to be the absolute best version of themselves and to do work they enjoy.
