Why our brains need more diverse Role Models of Leaders We really need more role models of different types of leaders, and we need to allow the visuals and images of such ‘atypical leaders’ perpetuate our brains - and establish themselves in our subconscious minds. This helps us change the older mental models we hold of ‘leaders’ in our own brains and thereby allow us to show up as authentic versions of leaders ourselves. This also helps change the mental models in our collective unconscious (what we call stereotypes), and thereby gives us permission to grow into life infusing versions of our own best selves instead of trying to fit into some pre-defined ‘box’ of what a leader looks like, walks like or talks like. I share my own example in the video of trying to break the grey-bearded stereotypical image of a wise professor. Quite frankly, this is one of the additional reasons I consistently put my own images and videos out here on social media. Come let's break these stereotypes together, so we give ourselves and others permission and inspiration to show up, shine, serve, and contribute - without force-wearing masks and attitudes that feel alien to us. ----- ps: This is a clip from a?fireside chat I had earlier this month with Shivani Sharma on the topic of invisible barriers to inclusion as part of a global event for Concentrix.?Thank you Shivani, for the wonderful conversation. I absolutely loved all the places we went into and the topics we covered, including the Barbie Monologue.

Very nicely explained, Professor! I have had my own share of experiences and struggles with not fitting the stereotypical image of a leader/executive and have realized how rewarding this can be in the long run. However, I do have a few follow-up questions. I'm not sure if this is the right forum, but I will post them anyway :) 1. Doesn’t this add additional pressure to be more thorough and confident in your craft? Isn’t it easier to play by the rules and try to fit in when you are not very confident in your skills? 2. How should one approach situations where there isn't enough space or a window of opportunity to demonstrate substance, and there are narrow opportunities to grab attention? (For example, at some kind of networking or marketing event)
