Why is the meeting today between IPL & team owners so important? We could see a bunch of franchises and players take a call on their futures depending on retentions and agreed purse sizes. We could see teams that are on the verge of offloading equity decide how does the potential sale work out for them given the increase or decrease in expenses and savings We could see the path being paved for many on field dynamics with the impact player rule decision and the RTM decision. Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum is supporting a bid to bring the WNBA’s 16th franchise to St. Louis, with plans to invest and promote the team to other investors and the league. Tatum’s involvement is enabled by a 2023 NBA collective bargaining rule allowing players to own up to 4% of WNBA franchises. Other stars like LeBron James and Stephen Curry have also shown interest in WNBA investments, though none have finalized deals. Interesting post! In my opinion, the budget of a team should not be manipulated. It is a critical component of the IPL structure and keeps Money power out of the equation. As far as players are concerned, if they do not wish to be retained at a particular price then they can work on a release or transfer with the franchise. There is a scope for an improvement and players should be allowed to decide on their own if they want to go back in the auction. But even today if a player does not want to continue with a particular team, i am sure the team will let the player go becuase in a team game having a player against his or her will is futile. Also i believe, for a player it is not always about getting the best pay. In a team game, the atmosphere, team management and freedom given to hone one's skill matter too. So a player may chose to play for the same team even if he can fetch more money in auction. This dynamic changes as the player moves from being a young talent to eventually becoming a liability(mentor).

Another team has decided to retain its core players, but the surprise move was not retaining Yuzvendra Chahal or Jos Buttler, and instead, opting to pay Shimron Hetmyer 11Cr. National Basketball Association (NBA) 30 franchises totalled more than US$1.5 billion during the 2023/24 season, according to SponsorUnited’s latest NBA Marketing & Partnerships Annual Report. Finance (US$247 million), technology (US$122 million) and healthcare (US$105 million) feature once again in the top three spending categories. Brands from technology, automotive, alcohol, non-alcohol and insurance sectors account for more than half the total growth in sponsorship spend. NBA is creating new ways for companies to advertise, like during the new In-Season tournament with LED courts, which adds that the number of technology sponsorships across the league will rise sharply due to the ‘growing necessity for digital transformation and cybersecurity’. Celtics are on the block after taking NBA title. The team’s ownership group, Boston Basketball Partners LLC, has decided to sell the franchise for estate and family planning considerations, according to a Celtics statement. The owners expect to sell a majority interest this year or early 2025, with the remainder closing in 2028. The Celtics are going on sale at a time of surging valuations for pro sports teams. That’s prompted more franchises to sell minority stakes or offer up control. In the past year, the NBA alone has seen three franchises change hands, with the Phoenix Suns, Charlotte Hornets and Dallas Mavericks all going for $3 billion or more. Sportico values the Celtics at $5.1 billion, the fourth-highest in the league.
