Britain is a world leader when it comes to fintech – in 2023, the UK attracted $5.1bn of fintech investment, more than any other country bar the US and more than the next 28 European countries collectively. ? We also host over 3,200 fintech headquarters, more than Germany, France and Singapore combined. ? This matters because it supports tens of thousands of highly skilled jobs – creating new opportunities for people working in this sector right across the UK and helping grow our economy.? ? Fintech is expected to become a trillion-dollar industry by 2030 and we need to keep up. We want the UK to be at the forefront of this growing sector, maintaining our position as one of the best places in the world to start and scale a fintech firm. ? That’s why we are putting in place the Edinburgh and Mansion House Reforms; why we’ve already implemented key recommendations of the Kalifa Review which provided new and growing fintech companies with the regulatory support they require; and why we have announced The Private Intermittent Securities and Capital Exchange System (PISCES) which will give fintech businesses better access to UK capital markets. We are also progressing legislation on cryptoassets to make the UK one of the best places for the use and development of these technologies, which will attract investment and create a wave of ground-breaking new products and services. Today, I met with representatives from some of the leading fintech and crypto companies in Downing Street, including representatives from @Wise and @Kraken, to recognise their contribution to the UK economy and celebrate the innovation and collaboration between government and businesses in the fintech and crypto industries. ? It’s this approach of working together that means we’ll go far – making the UK the envy of the world when it comes to fintech and crypto.
Bim Afolami MP Great work so far. Pretty impressed with the quality and variety of coverage coming out of HMT at the moment. Would be great to have the UK leading in crafting these standards.
Well said, we need to always support the Fintech ecosystem ??
Good to hear progress is being made. The Kalifa Review was one of the inspirations that led our CEO Barbara Gottardi to found Finbridge Global to facilitate sustainable growth through best fit partnerships.
Great news! Thank you for an update :)
Fantastic.
And we're running Fintech Bootcamp 2024 - a (free) programme for female-led fintechs on entering the UK, to help attract the next wave of fintech superstars to Britain
