Are you an expert interested in shaping CEPI’s mission to build a pandemic-free future and helping to tackle one of the biggest issues of our time? Join CEPI’s Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC). CEPI is recruiting approximately 10 new senior experts to join its SAC and is particularly interested in applicants from the Latin American and African regions. Scientific input, guidance and challenge by selected applicants will be critical in the continued implementation of the CEPI 2.0 strategy, which aims to accelerate the development of vaccines and other biological countermeasures to tackle emerging infectious diseases and to enhance global preparedness for future epidemic and pandemic threats. The call for applications is open until 9th April 2024. Find out more, including how to apply: https://lnkd.in/efJCw-_q

In the recent report prepared by the US National Academies, the dire situation the US government could face in the event of a smallpox outbreak is highlighted. The report concludes that investments in the development of improved smallpox vaccines, enhanced diagnostics, and more effective therapeutics are crucial. Smallpox virus samples still exist in two laboratories: the CDC in Atlanta, US, and the State Research Center of Virology and Biotechnology in Koltsovo, Russia. The report also raises concerns about the potential to re-engineer the smallpox virus using publicly available genetic sequences. Corpses preserved in permafrost could harbor infectious viruses, which might be exposed due to global warming. #smallpox #outbreak #health #globalhealth #publichealth #medicine #biotechnology #pharmaceuticals #FDA #WHO #CDC #vaccines https://lnkd.in/gKTxucgF

To facilitate vaccine access in the region, MpoxReC calls for urgent support for high-quality roll-out at each step of the vaccine distribution and monitoring chain. This roll-out includes strengthening policy discussion through regional and national immunisation technical advisory groups and ensuring capacity for vaccine assessment by national regulatory authorities with support from the African Vaccine Regulatory Forum and African Medicines Regulatory Harmonization.

A news article published in Science discusses evidence suggesting that a poliovirus batch found in a laboratory could be behind the origin of a virus that infected at least one patient in China. The isolate from this Chinese patient was studied at the Wuhan Institute of Virology and is highly similar to a poliovirus batch that Albert Sabin sent to the Pasteur Institute in Paris back in 1960. Although other alternatives are possible, one hypothesis suggests that the Chinese virus may have originated from one of the virus batches sent by Sabin to Pasteur, which may have somehow leaked into the wild later. Although there are no scientific arguments supporting one hypothesis over others, some researchers are convinced of the laboratory leak scenario. It is noteworthy that examples of poliovirus infections mediated by contamination or escape of vaccine-derived viruses have occurred several times. Furthermore, poliovirus cases derived from vaccine-derived viruses are known to occur rarely, with frequencies estimated at one infection for every 2 to 4 million doses of the oral poliovirus vaccine (OPV). Administration of OPV (which is not given in the U.S.) remains an important roadblock for the global eradication of poliovirus. #publichealth #polio #poliovirus #health #medicine #biotechnology #pharmaceuticals #pandemic #infectiousdiseases #WHO #CDC ?#vaccines #Pasteur https://lnkd.in/gsjXfGw9

https://lnkd.in/gxANQgjq ?? ?? Article title: An Overview: Laboratory Safety and work Practices in Infectious Disease Research ? Author(s): Shivaji K Jadhav* ? Journal: Journal of HIV for Clinical and Scientific Research ? Journal ISSN: 2455-3786 Abstract: Occupational exposure and risk of acquiring the infections is a very serious issue and it plays an important role concerned to personnel safety in the laboratory. It is very much essential to emphasis on safety aspects for each personnel working in infectious laboratories. This review article provides an insight on bio safety practices to be followed for safe and effective functioning of the laboratory to prevent the occupational exposure. ? Bio safety practice is designed as per international standards to help a safe and healthy environment that adequately supports good work practices. This review is mainly focused on bio safety practices which will provide sufficient information and SOPs should be used in conjunction with other resources to work safely with biohazard or any infectious agents in the laboratory. It will also commit to provide knowledge for safe laboratory environment for laboratory staff, trainees and also healthcare workers. In laboratories, there are many tasks that involve numerous risks factors to the laboratory staff [1]. Thus, any incident associated with a given microbiological hazard is probably most likely to happen in infectious laboratory. However, incidents are not only associated to a single factor [2]. Further these practices shall be practiced routinely to achieve the highest ethical and professional standards possible to protect the health of staff, the public, and the working environment, There are biological risks in health sector in biotechnology by bacteria, viruses, rickettsiae, fungi, and parasites [3,4]. ? #Bio-SafetyCabinets #InfectiousDiseaseResearch #GoodLaboratoryPractices #SafetyLaboratoryPractices #EpidemiologyOfHIVSpreadAndResistance #DiagnosticsEarlyDetectionAndMonitoring #IdentificationOfViralTargets #DevelopmentOfAgentsWithNovelMechanismsOfAction #OptimalClinicalUseOfExistingAntivirals #VaccineDevelopment #Peertechz #ManagementAndTreatmentOfAssociatedDisordersInAIDSPatients #PatientAdherenceQualityOfLifeSatisfaction #ConsumerAndPatientEducationAndHealthLiteracyPrograms #HealthEconomicsAndPublicHealthPolicy #PathophysiologyOfNeuropsychiatricAndBehavioralComplications #NeuroImmunologyAndBiomarkers #ViralGeneticVariabilityAndLinkToNeuroOutcomes #NeuroImagingInHIVInfection #PeertechzPublications #ImpactOfHIVTreatmentsOnNeuroBehavioralFunction #ConcomitantInfectionsSuchAsHepatitisCOnCNSFunction #SubstanceAbuse #SpecialPopulationsAndNeuroAIDS #ManagementStrategiesAndPharmacologicalInterventions #DiagnosisOfHIVAIDS #EpidemiologyOfHIVAIDS #OpportunisticInfectionsInHIVAIDS #PathogenicityOfHIVAIDS #PoliticalEconomyOfHIVInfectionAIDS #PreventionOfHIVAIDS #TreatmentOfHIVAIDS #VirologyAndImmunologyOfHIVAIDS
