When we stopped playing, we unfortunately halted the development of one of the most crucial and in-demand skills: problem-solving. Many of us tend to view games—especially video games—as a waste of time. While the reasons behind this perception could fill 50 posts, my goal today is to encourage people to tackle real-world problems using a concept called gamification. Simply put, gamification is the process of adding game mechanics to non-game environments to make tasks more enjoyable and engaging. One of the first insightful individuals to apply this concept was Ananth Pai, who used it in his math class, which focused on problem identification and solving. He guided his students to success by incorporating the basic elements of gamification, making learning fun, engaging, and memorable. As a result, his class completed two years’ worth of curriculum in just 18 months. Inspired by his success, companies like LinkedIn have followed suit—using gamified elements like puzzles to enhance problem-solving skills. In conclusion, let’s bring the essence of games into real life and unlock our problem-solving potential #Gamification #ActiveLearning #problemSolvingSkill

?? Learning and Development Skill Tree ?? We often talk about leveraging and adapting gaming tools to create engaging gamified learning experiences. One concept from the gaming world that we could apply is the "skill tree." In games, as you complete missions, you earn skill points that allow you to unlock new abilities and improve your character. Sounds familiar? How about we translate this into the language of learning experience design? You complete modules to learn skills that can enhance your job performance. Or earning "skill points" after each module, which you can then spend to unlock advanced skills higher up in the hierarchy. What if we add a "multiplayer" element, showcasing the most frequently chosen skills and popular learning paths? The possibilities are endless and the learners might feel more excited about exploring their learning journey compared to traditional top-down presentations of modules or learning chunks they need to go through. Have you ever created or used something similar in your learning experience designs? What other gamified elements could you incorporate into this? The skill tree in the video was adapted from "Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order." #gamification #learningexperiencedesign #storyline #elearningdevelopment #instructionaldesign #traininganddevelopment #learningdesign #gaming #gamifiedlearning
