Founders, let’s take Burnout seriously. 72% of founders reported a detrimental impact on their mental health (According to a report by Startup Snapshot in April 2023). Burnout can manifest as a toxic blend of stress and fatigue. Beware, it can sneak up on founders gradually… Stress can lead to sleep deprivation. Fatigue leads to a decline in focus and productivity. The combination of stress and fatigue can result in mood swings affecting not just your morale but your whole team’s. When burnout grips, it can lead to 'panic paralysis' - when even minor tasks can feel?insurmountable. Sometimes we laugh it off, even wear it as a badge of honour. But left unchecked it can at best derail your plans and at worst impact your mental and physical health. As Founders, we should remember we are in a better position than most to both mitigate against burn-out and make adjustments if it happens. After all, who's the boss?
Very important post. Full blown burnout will do worse than derail you. Understanding the signs and symptoms are crucial, so the feelings of burnout don’t lead to burnout. I am witnessing a systemic rise in this issue, we are facing a human energy crisis currently. Developing the skills of resilience are crucial…
I collect the badges like I’m doing my Kelloggs swim challenges.
Take care of yourself, founders! Your well-being is key to the success of your company. ??
