Dear #FridayNightListeners, Good news and bad news are sometimes very close together. And that was the case for the city of #Frankfurt yesterday, Thursday; both with a link to Europe - and Belgium. Let's start with the bad news. After a indisputable performance against an admittedly well-played current leader from Belgium, #EintrachtFrankfurt were eliminated from the 23/24 Conference League competition. The Eagles, normally known for their magical European Cup nights, were shockingly unimaginative, but this is in line with their current momentum. In addition to the sporting and emotional aspect, the monetary loss also weighs heavily. Because every round brings income; for some clubs now even more important due to the #DFL/investor deal that fell through this week. But the money stuff - well, I mention this because I need a link for the good news that reached the financial centre of Frankfurt just a few hours before last night's match: The European Union's new Anti-Money Laundering Authority - in short: #AMLA - is to be based in Frankfurt. Representatives of the EU member states and the European Parliament voted by a majority in favour of locating the authority in Germany's financial hub, as announced by the Belgian EU Council Presidency. Germany's bid for the seat thus prevailed against eight European capitals. Paris and Madrid were considered to be the fiercest rivals in the months-long selection process, and Dublin was also considered to have a chance. #MoneyLaundering. The term sounds kind of "nice" or "trivialising", don't you think? After all, we all enjoy freshly washed clothes. And ask children whether the term sounds positive or negative... Money laundering describes the process of disguising the origin of illegally acquired money and reintroducing it into the legal economic cycle. The illegal proceeds usually originate from activities such as drug trafficking, extortion, prostitution, arms dealing, smuggling, robbery or bribery. The term "money laundering" can be traced back, according to legend, to the mafia boss Al Capone, who invested his proceeds from criminal activities in launderettes and thus successfully concealed their origin. His methods are considered to be the model for many fraudsters today. There are various ways in which fraudsters "cleanse" their "dirty" money and return it to the legal economic cycle. The "three-phase model", (1. placement, 2. layering and 3. integration), explains the procedure. Readers from the #FinServ sector are undoubtedly familiar with this, not least from the annual AML compliance training. #Money is a song by the British rock band #PinkFloyd, which appeared on the album The Dark Side of the Moon in 1973. Dark Side - somehow fits in with money laundering and currently with Eintracht. As there is a huge overlap between the financial and football bubble in Frankfurt - which news was on your mind more yesterday? Have a clean weekend. (cw08-2024_226) More: https://bit.ly/3VudwMj .

Sorry.
Welcome #AMLA and propably very good news out of Frankfurt yesterday. Not talking about the game - mmh, had the small bit of hope that it might work well within the last 5 minutes but mmh, no additional play time nor final penalties. A bit sad Oliver S. Bauer

1 年Funny addition, because the "economic cycle" is mentioned as a term within the post: A week ago, I explained the simple economic cycle (i.e. private households, companies and the state) to my daughter. Still without foreign countries and without banks. It will be interesting to see how I will soon be able to explain money laundering.?;-)
