My heart is full and my mission continues as we gather strength, determination, and compassion for event professionals around the globe. It is not okay to review this once every 5 years when there is a reality facing many industry professionals. I have spent 2.5 years petitioning those who I thought could help support the why? I have listened to independent, corporate and frustrated voices near and far. This is a priority that is being swept under the rug by a few. Change is needed now, and especially for the next generation of event industry professionals. I hope that in my lifetime, I have the opportunity to watch the change and transformation that is possible when we educate our fellow professionals and what supports the growth of our industry in the future. 3 things I focus on when planning keynote speeches or wellness days for schools or organizations: -Actionable tips. -Around evidence-based research conveyed in a relatable way -Delivered with empathy and enthusiasm. Platitudes around boundaries and self-care are nice. But making sure that the folks who attend my sessions walk away with a clear sense of how to take better care of themselves is the most important part of my job. I wanted to share an interesting observation from two networking events I attended last week - one free and one paid. Surprisingly, the paid event had a higher turnout. At the free event, only 10 out of 40 registered people showed up, while the paid one was well attended. This got me thinking about how we perceive value and commitment. Often, when we invest financially in something, we're more likely to follow through and make the most of it. Let me know your thoughts on this. Have you ever noticed a similar pattern in your own experiences related to health? Many of us start our wellness journeys with free resources, which can be a great starting point (if you implement). But sometimes, we might find ourselves stuck despite consuming lots of free content. If you're feeling this way, it might be worth considering whether a different approach could be beneficial. My current Saturday. I've been asked to speak at the Mulvane school district wellness fair next Friday, and I am finally feeling productive around getting materials together for the talks! I'd written down some ideas, and now I'm actually doing something with them so I can start practicing ?? I am letting myself to have freak out moments and reminding myself: I know this information. I've lived this information. It's 25 minutes, and I've handled a 40 minute one last year (technically, the speaking window is 30 minutes, but I say 5 can be Q&A! ??) It's okay if it's imperfect. It's getting my story and the information out there to help others. Hopefully, this can begin the path to more speaking events and give me more evidence that I can do scary things. The evidence you find is what your brain is biased to looking for.
