Benjamin Zephaniah was a British writer, dub poet and actor. But so much more than that, he was principled and fearless and despite his acclaim refused to follow the crowd. May he rest in eternal power. Thanks for the reminder of this clip Sayce Holmes-Lewis, FRSA.
Thank you so much for this post. We include his work in our Contemporary poets unit and next week we are due to read and discuss his poem "Miss World". He was a great activist - totally principled and sincere. A wicked sense of humour too!! Rest in Peace Dr Z.
Straight-talking and fearless. A true legend. He will be missed.
Excellent way to protest. And more of us who refuse these awards will help to remove white colonial dominance and make institutions like the monarchy (the bastion of slavery and racism) less and less relevant.
He couldn't be clearer. One of our Greats has now ascended ????. We are thankful for the gems of wisdom he left behind through his creativity and philosophical mind ??
I found your fearless advocacy on racial injustice and Empire inspiring, shunning an OBE as incompatible with your position on Empire https://lnkd.in/d_8WzpDG. A dyslexic writer to boot. Rest well King ????
Blessings King of the Ring! Chat nuff Realness. My tribe!
So very true and the retention of the word Empire when we no longer have one is insulting when it's been made clear this is an issue for people descended from some parts of the former empire. A simple swap to the word excellence is well overdue
He was an absolute legend. Blessings on his passing.

1 年I always tuned into Question Time when he was on. Spoke plainly yet with humour and in a way that encouraged reflection. RIP.
