Summary: Happy Hanukkah to all my connections Those who follow me, will know that I like to wish everyone of every faith, religion and culture all the best on major holidays and events. Today is the start of Hanukkah, the Jewish commemoration of events in the 2nd Century, a celebration that will go on for 8 nights. I'll be honest, as a Palestinian, I really struggled with whether I should post a Happy Hanukkah message considering the terrible events happening in Palestine right now. But I realised that I would not be staying true to myself and that Hanukkah is focused on the theme of bringing light into the darkness and emphasising that even a small, against-the-odds effort can have a transforming effect. These are exactly mindsets and beliefs we need right now when times are tough (I am talking predominantly about the war but also every other tough event happening for people around the world). It is also important to differentiate the Jewish faith from the decisions made by the government and army of Israel. So for all my friends, acquaintances and colleagues that are commemorating this festival; Happy Hanukkah! Here's hoping that the light we all so desire comes through a bit quicker and that our collective efforts make the difference we need in the world ?? ???? #effectiveness #PositivePalestinian #hanukkah #Palestine #Israel #EmotionalIntelligence
Just like the Catholics and Protestants of Northern Ireland, Faris. It had nothing to do with faith, just terrorism, and those who made the bullets were not the ones to die. You've reminded me of a song that explains it all. Sending much love to all of you at this terrible time. Xx https://youtu.be/0PaTvZWtjDM
Lovely words my friend!! Cowards start wars, brave people have the courage to forgive and end wars.
Lovely words, and you’re absolutely right. What we need above all else right now is mutual understanding and support. The Jews and Palestinians are very sadly caught in the middle of a war between Israel and Hamas. We should absolutely remember the difference between religion and country. Happy Chanukah to all
Beautifully said Faris.
Well said Faris ??

11 个月Such a great post Faris, I appreciate the vulnerability you shared. I think lots of people worry about saying the right or wrong thing and how it may be perceived in terms of referring to other peoples cultures, ethnicity and religious celebrations and ultimately that becomes a barrier to standing up for others from different backgrounds. I think acknowledging this internal conflict is really powerful modelling for others, promoting an inclusive, compassionate and human-centred approach that I know is integral to who you are. If only our world leaders could do the same!
