?? Inflation going down - now 7.9% over the last 12 months ?? Key quote: "There were no large offsetting upward effects" This second point may be overlooked by many, but is both positive and very significant. The inflation trend now is down, and whilst UK inflation remains around 4 times higher than target - and still higher than other major economies - at least there is no one area that is bucking the trend and slowing this decline. In particular core inflation (excluding items such as energy, food, alcohol and tobacco) also heading down (albeit by not much). Hopefully, this might be enough to slow further interest rate increases by the Bank of England next month. Worth remembering that the above inflation data is still indicative of everyday costs continuing to go up (this is still inflation NOT deflation), but at least the pace of cost increases is now starting to slow. That said, food inflation remains really high. The ONS graph below shows food inflation at 17.4% despite the wider CPIH figure being 7.3%. #ukinflation #inflation #ukeconomy #foodinflation Manas Pratap Singh
